Question about Garmin GPSMAP 295 GPS Receiver
Mine runs perfectly from the external cig. power as well. The promlem for me is that im in a flying club with 5 planes, and half the cig lighters work and the other half do not. What i think im going to do is get a female adapter for the cig lighter and a battery case for 6 AAs and just wire the case to the adapter, to mimic external power. The problem is the two golden contacts on the back of the betery pack, when one gets pushed in too far, it no longer makes a connection to the gps. inop. ill post back after i try the external power with a battery
Watch out for that - if you use regular batteries, they probably won't like that. They're not designed for recharging. The GPSMap 295 can batteries and external power at the same time because it has circuitry that switches between the two - power is not being sent through the batteries.
This guy - http://www.fixya.com/support/t2487552-garmin_gpsmap_295_will_not_run_from - opened his up and found a loose screw. I have the same problem with mine which I'm about to try. This may help you as well.
