The wireless network security settings on laptop do not match settings on router?

- This error occurs when the wireless security that you set on the wireless laptop does not match the wireless security on the router.
  • If the wireless router's security setting is WPA but on the laptop you used WEP for the wireless security, that's when a mismatch occurs.

- What you can do to resolve the problem is to delete the wireless profile you created on the laptop. After that, let the laptop search for wireless connection available, select the correct wireless settings and it should connect.
--For example the operating system of your computer is Vista, in order to remove the wireless profile you created and reconnect to the wireless router, do the following instructions:- Go to Start>Control Panel>Network and Internet> Network and Sharing Center- Click on Manage Wireless Networks on the left panel. Delete the wireless profile then Search for available wireless networks again. Type the correct wireless security settings on your laptop
-- If you would like to know what wireless security has been setup on the router, connect the laptop or use a desktop which is wired to the router then access the router setup page by typing or in the address field of your browser and then press Enter. Enter admin for the router user name and your password (or the default, password).

--After logging in. In the main menu on the left, click on Wireless Settings, from there you can check the wireless security or you can setup wireless security from there if you haven't done so.
Hope this helps. Have a nice day. Don't forget to vote if you find this guide helpful. Thanks.

Looking to set up security for belkin 54g wirelrss router

There is two type of security in this.
1. Administrator password
2. Wireless security

For setting up wireless security:
Open the router interface page using
On the left hand side column, under WIRELESS, click on "Security"
On the login page, leave the password bank, click submit
Under security mode, select 64-bit WEP
Under key1: type your 10-digit telephone number and 2 numbers in each small box
Make sure, key1 is selected, click Apply Changes
Wireless security has been setup!!!
**Never open router page on a wireless computer

For Admin security:
On the same router interface,
On the left hand side column, under UTILITIES, click on "System Settings"
Here you can set your password (Current password should be left blank)
Now click on Apply changes
**If you forget this Administrator password, you may have to reset the router which will result in loss of configuration settings

All the best my friend!

Says not secure

To connect to your wireless router, it needs the router’s wireless settings configured and also needs the wireless cards in all the laptops and or computers to be configured with the router’s wireless settings. Then the laptops and desktop computers can communicate with your wireless router.

To set-up and secure the wireless router from unauthorized access, follow these steps: -
1. Connect the wireless router to your computer with a LAN cable.
2. Start your browser and enter the router's configuration URL IP address.
3. Enter the router setup, login and password
4. Change the admin password
5. Go to the wireless settings and change the default SSID and turn off SSID broadcast.
6. Setup encryption key the strongest is WPA2 (if not then WPA).
7. For further security measures - turn on MAC address filtering and enter the MAC address of the wireless cards on the computer/s you want to connect to this wireless router.
8. Record the settings you have made and keep it in a safe place and Save the settings.
9. Configure the wireless cards on the computer/s with the SSID and encryption settings of the router.
10. Remove the LAN cable between the router and the computer then the computers should be able to connect to the router wirelessly.
To access the Internet you need to connect the DSL or cable modem to the WAN (Internet) port on the wireless router.

Brought a new laptop with wireless installed have a philips SNB5600 but have lost the security key how can i get the code

go to the wireless access point admin settings (not on your wireless adapter on your laptop). then check wireless security settings. if you see something there such as security key, that is the security key that you need to set up on your laptop. if security key is not visible, try to see if there is an option there which says unmask to show the security key, then copy it to your laptop. if all else fails, change the security key in the wireless access point and change all the wireless adapters that connect to it accordingly to the new security key you set it up.

Connecting a laptop.

on connecting your laptop wirelessly, it is best if you set the router to have wireless security first.

accessing the router's setup page:

open IE, then type on your address bar, it will ask you for a username and password, thats both admin (these steps will depend if you have changed the settings on the router)

once opened, go to the wireless tab, change your Wireless Network Name (SSID) to something esle instead of Linskys, like your name perhaps. then set the channel to 11ghz and hit save settings.

now look for a Wireless Security SUBTAB, enable to wireless security, under security mode select WPA-Personal (PSK) set your algorithm to TKIP and make up a password on the blank space that says Passphrase / Pre Shared Key , that will be you wireless security code. now hit save settings.

in connecting your wireless laptop, make sure the wireless adapter on the device is enabled and it will automatically locate the wireless network and wil ask you for the security code, once you place it, you will get connection.
