SOURCE: watch battery replacement
I used a modification of the vise solution. I put a plastic bottle screw cap on either side of the watch (bottle side in) and tightened the vise. I heard a satisfying "pop" and I am on my way. Fred

SOURCE: REMOVE BACK COVER
If caseback is without grooves, it is snap on caseback and you have to insert openers blade under the lip and pry up. Lip is the tiny gap between the case and caseback.
If you have groves in caseback, it is screwdown caseback and you will need special opening tool. Insert the blades in to the grooves and unscrew the caseback.
You can find this tool on eBay.
