Where is the model number on a 390 graco spray painter

The check valve is a ball valve that gets dirty and rusty over time and sticks usually due to the usage of water based paints and storage with water in the machine and lines. I run mineral spirits through the machine if I am storing the machine for longer than a few weeks. This helps to reduce rust and makes it easier to prime when I use the machine again. If I have the ball valve sticking on my machine I will tap the valve to try and get the ball to loosen but usually I have to disassemble the valve and clean it throughly cause I don't like to tap the valve too much and cause damage to it.

Why not just send them the hppt:/ address or www. address for the manual? They can type it in and download same within minutes.

I have a copy of the parts manual for you, but its not a video or a photo, so I will try to send it as a photo.

The size tip you use depends on what you are spraying, how thin/thick it is and if you something like Flotrol to make it flow on the work better. Tip sizes are given as a decimal number and here's how to read them.
Example: .517 (the one most people, including you, need)
- The 5 means you'll get a ten inch swath of paint with the tip 12 inches from the work surface. 5's are for general painting, 2's and 3's are usually used for trim work.
- The 17 is the diameter of the orifice (.017) the paint passes through to get properly atomized. The larger the orifice, the thicker the medium you can effectively spray. .013's are used for very thin things like stain. .015's & .017's are for latex paints, .019's are for enamils, and .021 - .027 are reserved for thicker things like elastomerics.
Most likely if you are using an interior, latex paint, you'll need the .517 tip. Be sure to strain your paint so you'll get an even fan of paint and the best results. Even brand new paint has sand impurities in it that will effect the tips performance or plug up the filters.

Go to Graco's website at www.graco.com/us/en.html. Under the customer Care tab you can look for Instruction Manuals. Search on your model number and you'll get a list of files that refer to your model. Usually the manual and/or parts breakdown are in the first two or three files.

The XR9 is a Graco paint sprayer so go to their home page at, http://www.graco.com/Internet/T_MainSite.nsf/Webpages/StartPage. Put your part number, 232740, in the 'Search Site' box on the left and the first PDF will be the manual for your sprayer. Graco manuals cover several model configurations so make sure you look for your part number's breakdown and information.

Usually, the fluid valve has a lump of paint or debris caught where valve needle and seat meet. Be sure to strain the paint during fill-up each time. It should be cleanable by spraying some thinner (for the paint you are spraying) and jiggling the spray control. If not, you will have to dismantle the tip and inspect the parts. Hope this helps!
