Same here, just started 26May2008. Is there a service manual available? I used to be a camera repair technician for Kodak here in Oz but I cannot find a service manual for this one: JVC GR-D53AA Any help would be appreciated.

Turn cam on and it says that the lens caps is on, but its not.
when i put it on auto it says lens cap and there's lines going down the screen, i tried cam reset but it was still black. i think the problem is in the ccd
Apparently this same problem exists on many different models. I have a JVC grd72u. I called JVC @ 800-252-5722. I selected the "Corrective Action Program" prompt from the automated attendent. I spoke to a customer service rep. They are aware of the problem and are fixing it for free, but only until 12/31/07. I suggest you call ASAP and get your name in the computer. If the problem is something besides the CCD sensor, they will call you with the estimate to repair.

Jvc has a chronic problem with the soldering of wires going to the CCD (the part that captures the image). If the camera is out of warranty, this a $100 repair by JVC. They just solder loose wires....

Same again here. Black screen with "lens cap on" indicated. For a while it did intermittently work but even then it would not adjust its exposure. eg too bright outdoors, screen goes white.
When I open and turn it to play mode the message were: "Eject and re-insert Tape" then "Unit in safeguard Mode". I tried to re-insert the tape but the same messages were promt.
