Laptop burner reads but no longer burns CDs

It is a DVD ROM drive which stands for DVD Read Only Memory. In other words, this drive is meant to only PLAY DVDs and CDs but NOT save data to them.

To burn CDs you need a CD burner. Burners are of 3 types:

CD writer only burns and reads CDs.

Combo drive reads CDs and DVDs but only burns CDs.

Super drive burns and reads from CDs and DVDs.

As you go higher in functionality, the price also increases. Check your needs before you plan to buy one. Also compare prices of all the drives. Note: burn-able media costs are separate.

No it only has a CD read write and a DVD Rom player READ ONLY.

try isolating the problem by plugging an external cd/dvd drive via the USB. use this to burn CD/DVD if the process works, replace your laptop dvd drive.

Might be the regestry, errors can accure throught the reg, nothing you did it just happens. Try this and see, "Start" "Run" type in "regedit" then ok in the left field click on the "+" next to Hkey_Local_Machine" + next to "System" + next to :CrurrentControlSet" + next to " Control" + next to "Class" then click on " {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10317} " in the right fild click on "Upper Filters" then "delete" now "Lower Filters" then "Delete" restart pc. Unless you have one of the very latest laptops, your model laptop most likely has a DVD ROM combo drive - which allows you to play DVDs and CDs also burn CDs/
You need to give me the make and model number of your laptop for me to verify if your laptop is capable of burn DVDs.

first reinstall the operating system and then you use either nero 6 or NTI CD? DVD maker

I just installed Nero CD writing Software and Power DVD and it took care of the problem.

Yes, you can install the cd with the Nero Software in the new Laptop, and you will be able to write CDs or DVDs, but if you have a combo only you will only be able to write/burn CDs but read DVDs no problem.
