Question about E-Machines eMachines Desktop PC

2 Answers

My dell dimension 9200 desktop won't boot up. When I turn on the machine it remains in standby mode, ie. the power light is solid amber. I all the fans and drives power up but the computer will not even post the BIOS. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I work in my own computer repair shop, I've worked on a few Dells, to say the least.
A bad power supply will provide you with the situation you describe as well.
Plug in another Dell PSU if you have one...

Unplug the unit. Open it and reseat all components you can reach and all cables. Blow all dust from the unit. Try to boot again. If still unresponsive, remove all memory and replace one piece at a time. Attempt to boot with each piece, try all the available memory slots. If still unresponsive your motherboard is probably the culprit and the system needs a technician to look at it.

Dimension 3100 turns on the power button has a steady orange light there is also an orange light on motherboard cpu and power suplly fans working but wont bot up

Blinking amber (orange) indicates a problem with the power supply inside the computer. If the system cannot boot and there is a solid amber light, this could indicate a problem with the power connections for the CPU on the system board (see "Power Problems" in your Owner's Manual).

Dell 4700 desktop, will not boot up. Light remains

A solid Amber power LED is an indication of a motherboard problem. Remove any external connections and see if LED indications change. If no change, remove all PCI expansion cards, try again. If still no go, disconnect all drives, try again. If still no change, ensure the CPU heatsink is firmly attached (If loose you need to replace the retention module) If nothing loose and no changes from other steps, replace motherboard

I have a Dell Dimension 9200. Having a problem with power to PC. The power supply unit is working fine. The power switch seems to be ok, but the machine will not power up. Do you have any suggestions

Please check on the power button if the Led is steady amber it requires motherboard replacement. If the light is steady green check the cables in the system that they are connected properly.

One of two things:

Either the power supply is marginal

or

the motherboard is bad.

Good luck.

Computer turns on but now booting up

Make sure the memory stick is securely installed on the motherboard. Also make sure that any additional cards in the expansion slots are also securely installed.

I had a similar problem on another machine and it was due to a memory stick that wasn''t fully secure, I reinstalled the memory stick and made sure it was a solid connection and it resolved my problem.

Please let me know if this helps you.
