Question about NetGear MR814 Wireless Router

1 Answer

Have a new Hughes net HN9000 satellite service and trying to get the Netgear wireless router to allow me to connect to the internet. Have two other computer set up for the home network and they can see the Netgear router with full signal. Hard wired computer wont connect to the internet when the router is in place. Hughes moden plugged in direct to the computer works fine. Ping test for router also successful. Still wont connect to Hughes Modem. Sure it is a software something and tried to change the IP address on the Netgear router but was unable to do so. Tried about everything except something that will work.

    IP Address......:192.168.0.2
    Subnet Mask......: 255.255.255.0
    Default Gateway..: 192.168.0.1

Hughes HN9000 connected to computer Ethernet port with Ethernet cable (not USB). One came with the Netgear router and one came with the Hughes HN9000. With the Modem connected to the computer without the Netgear router all works fine and internet connection is acheived without issue.

I got your answer and an answer from Netgear and between the two I was able to resolve the issue and got the system connected. You were right on with changing the IP address on the router and that worked. Darn router locked up when I changed them and then I could not access the router even with the new IP address. Had to reset it and make all the changes including the wireless connection (forgot them the first time) and then the LAN IP changes and once I unplugged the power and then reconnected power and the Hughes Satellite Modem everything worked. Still cant access the router but it is working so dont need to I guess. I want to thank you for your help and I sure hope I can return the favor someday. Thanks a million. Ray

Hey, Can you perform the task below and paste me the results from the modem:

Connect the modem to the computer. Open command prompt and type ipconfig. Paste me the results for IP address, subnet mask and default gateway.

Also, confirm, how you have connected the modem to the computer. IS it using a ethernet cable or USB?

Once I have this information, I will be able to provide you with an accurate resoultion.

I appreciate the information sent. Satellite modem and router has same IP address and hence you are facing issue with the configuration.

Follow the steps below to configure your router:

    1. Please remove all the connections from the router. Connect power to the router and then connect a cable from the computer into any of the 4 lan ports on the router. Make sure the modem should not be connected to the router or to the computer.
    2. Open up the Internet Browser (Safari, Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, etc.).
    3. Put http://192.168.0.1 in address bar.
    4. On the basic setting page scroll to the bottom and click on Apply.
5.Login to the router (User Name = admin Password = password)
    6. Click on lan ip setup under advance.
    7. Change the lan ip to 192.168.10.1 and under use router as a dhcp server change the starting ip as 192.168.10.2 and ending ip as 192.168.10.51, click apply and click ok for any popup message that arise.
    8. Once the browser display some error message like CANNOT FIND SERVER, ACTION CANCELLED etc, Connect the modem on the wan port of the router and restart the computer.
    9. Power off the modem and the router after making the connections.
    10. Power on the modem and wait till the light comes on it, then power on the router.
    11. Open the browser (Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox).
    12. Access the router (http://192.168.10.1).
    13. Login to the router (User Name = admin Password = password).
    14. Click on Setup Wizard and then select "Yes" and Click "Next" on the detection window.
    15. It should give you a "Dynamic IP Detected" or "pppoe detected"(type the username & password of your dsl account in case of pppoe detection) and then click next.
    16. click Apply.
    17. Logout of the router.
    18. Open up another browser window and try to access internet.

Revert, if you face any further issues.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.

After years of dial up, I've acquired a HughesNet

According to the manual, you can purchase any wireless router (manual calls the router "air base")

I would advise a D-link or a Linksys router.

I bought my netgear router over a year ago and it is no longer under warranty. i have since moved and had to change internet providers to hughes net. now my router needs to be reconfigured to my new...

you can log into the netgear.

the ip address and the password are usuall underneath it.

connect it to yout laptop or pc and login using the details. once logged in, you will be prompted to insert new services provider details, or if its a DHCP connection and you have your router plugged into the wireless netgear, it will pickup the settings, all you will need to do is define SSID (wireless name) and password.

any probs let me know

I need to connect linksys router to hughesnet hn9000 modem

First make sure you are able to go online when your Hughes-net box is connected directly to the Computer.

Then go to this Link and you'll get all the information you need Setting Up Wireless connection

Note this number Linksys Tech Support 1800-326-7114. It'll come in handy.

Lose internet connection (hughes net) when hooking up router

I would contact your hughes net, that is a satelite provider. That is a total different system, than dsl or cable. Hughes net should be able to walk you through the setup.

Cannot get dlink 524 wireless router to work with HN9000

Hi! I will be more than glad to assist u in this concern..if u bypass the router it will work, the reason why the modem wont talk to the router bcoz the router is not properly setup.. if you are using a cable modem from ur cable company provider- u need to do a mac clone on the router u have to clone the mac address of ur computer. normaly the mac of ur computer is the one register to your cable company and on the setup page of the router just selct on the internet setup, dhcp after clonning the mac address of your computer. u need to connect ur computer directly to the router and then after doing the process connect the router to the modem. if u are using a username and password, u have to use the pppoe settings on the router, if ur isp set a static ip , set it up to the router, to check the ip setting of your isp.. connect the computer directly to the modem and check if u have internet.. then click on start, run and type cmd,it will give u a dos prompt and from there type ipconfig/all and it will show u the ip address, subnetmask, default gateway, dns server.. I hope this will solve ur concern..

Wndr 3300 net gear router wont work with hn 9000 hughes net modem

I went to the Hughes web site to check out the modem. They say it is also a router. I think you will have to disable the router abilities of your WNDR 3300 Net Gear Router.

Get into the Netgear setup by loging on to it.In its WAN setup select Static IP Address and set the Static IP Address to the same as the hughes modem, except for the last number which should be about 50 greater. IE: Hughes 192.168.12.1 and Netgear 192.168.12.55.

In the DHCP setup, disable the DHCP Server

In the Wireless setup, Give your network a name is SSID. You should also set up security to keep others off you internet connection with a WEP key.

I hope this helps.

Connecting D-Link DI-634M to HughesNet HN9000

I hate it when ISPs give you devices that dictate how your network has to be setup. They should just give you a modem which give a public IP to whatever connects to it.

For this to work you have to connect the cable from the hughes box to your router on one of the four regular jacks on the back NOT the internet/wan jack you would normally use.

Set the IP of the Dlink to 192.168.0.254
Subnet mask 255.255.255.0
default GW 192.168.0.1

This SHOULD allow the router to act like a switch. I have a linksys that has an option to make it function as an access point , which is what you need for this modem, but I dont see any option for the d link you have to do that.

Hughes have a knowledgebase which may be of some use to you.
