Question about KitchenAid Refrigerators
Replaced water valve because water was leaking from the water shoot to the ice maker. There is ice in mold, but it isn't being released. No water is leaking and freezing in shoot or over the mold as before the water valve replacement. Is it the ice maker unit or what? The refrigerator is not yet nine (9) years old. Just recently replaced the water filter (1-2 mos). Everything else works fine.

SOURCE: Sub-Zero 685 Ice Maker Problems
There are 2 important things to be aware of with these icemakers. One is that they need to be completly level, both side to side and front to back. Second, the fill on these icemakers should be right about 100 milliliters. Get a measuring cup with Ml markings and pull out the icemaker. Fast forward the icemaker by jumpering the little test terminals behind the square cover. You need to connect the terminals labeled T for thermostat and H for heater together with a piece of wire. Be careful, as there is 110 volts to these terminals. Keep the wire there for about fifteen seconds, then pul it out or the icemaker will get really hot. Just as a note, for all this to work the icemaker must be plugged in, turned on , and you must hold down the switch that is pushed by the bucket. If there are no test terminals on the icemaker, then you can just fast forward it by pushing the fingers around in a clockwise direction looking at it from the square end. Anyways, once you get it moving, put your measuring cup under the fill tube and wait for the fill cycle. the water should be very close to 100 ml (range is 90-120ml). If your fill is correct, and the icemaker is PERFECTLY level, then make sure the fill tube is inserted all the way into the icemaker. Hope you can wade through all this for an answer. Good Luck!

Make sure your manual doesn't say something about inline filters, or a float that might be sticking in off position. Depending on how ice is made sometimes they have a float to where water rises so hight then gets shut off to freeze and form the ice.

You have done a good job of attempting to diagnose by process of elimination, but this is a more complex system. I have provided some links below to assist you in diagnosing your problem. Links courtesy of www.repairclinic.com.
1. Ascertain that the evaporator fan is operational. This may be controlled by the Door Switch, (No.4) and could cause the fan to be inoperable.
2. Ascertain that the Fresh Food compartment light goes off when door is closed.
3. The air diffuser may be faulty by not controlling the air flow from the freezer properly
Tip: Always maintain dual temperature control settings at equal or +/- 1 setting position.
How refrigerators work:
You will need to verify operation of the following components listed below:
1. Evaporator fan motor
2. Air diffuser assembly
3. Light switch for refrigerator/freezer light
4. Door switch
