Maytag refrigerator side stopped working; freezer is fine. WHY?

If there is a home remedy I would like to try before spending a lot of money to repair or replace. Thank you so much!

p.s. I have noticed there was ice buildup inside the freezer.

sounds like a defrost problem maytag has problems with the defrost thermostat use a hair dryer to melt the ice on the coils and see if the defrost thermostat is swelled up on the edge

Side by side Maytag Plus. The freezer part is working fine. The refrigerator side stop working. There is no detectable ice build up on the coils at the bottom or inside the freezer.
