How do I repalce broken starter rope on a Stihl FS 45 trimmer

Pretty simple. You will have to take the housing off to access the coil. Depending on your type of pull start you may have to tie the end on to the cord reel and hand crank the tensioner while you feed the cord on. Once that is complete fee the line through the hole in the housing and tie on the rubber pull. You should be set.

If you're pretty handy, you should be able to do this yourself. Once you get the housing off the motor, you may be able to dig the broken end of the rope out of the pulley and wind the spring back up with it, then feed it out the hole. At that point, you could jam the pulley with wooden wedges or something, disconnect the rope from the pulley, and feed in a new rope.

With the plug removed the starter should pull very easily. When trying start did the cutter head try to spin? If yes clutch springs may need replacement

If you have a nice Stihl dealer he (or she) might be nice enought to print you the specific repair information that you may need but no place that I know of offers the complete manual for free.

Could be several things including a broken return spring. If you are not experienced with these springs please take it to a reputable shop to avoid any personal injury.
