Agree with rjmbridge. I called the Weber support people and was told that there is a built in safety feature on the regulator that will cause the flame to burn at a low setting if the gas within the extension tube to the large tank and regulator is not allowed enough time to equalize. They suggested turning on the gas from the tank very slowly, allow about 2 minutes with the temperature control knob turned off, then turn the temp knob on and light. This worked for me.

When you turn on the main propane value (on the propane tank) do it real slow and easy. What might be happening is that the regulator on the unit is sensing too much propane at one time and is shutting down the flow. If this happens, you only get a small flame. You need to shut it down, wait about a beer, then try again REAL SLOW AND EASY.
Remember, slow and easy; as soon as you hear some gas going though, stop and see if it works. You can open the valve further if needed but take it slow.
This is how I made my Weber Q work after about 6 months. Now, it's great. I have to wrestle with it but at least it works now.

Try checking the regulator, this is the round metal piece connected to the gas line. If this is not level flat the valve inside will not let propane flow through.
