Question about IBM Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I want to play videos from the internet on my laptop

I have an IBM Thinkpad 380D with a Pentium processor at152 MHz and 80MB of RAM. I'd really like to play videos such as youtube videos on it, but have had no luck with the Adobe Flash Player because it needs too much RAM (specifically 128MB). If you know of any way I could play videos on this laptop, I'd be really happy, though if it's just not possible, oh well.

Thanks, but a Thinkpad 380D can't really be upgraded much, if any more. I guess I just can't play videos on it.

YOUR LAPTOP SPEED IS TOO SLOW, AS WELL AS NOT HAVING ENOUGH MEMORY. IT WOULD BE BEST IF YOU UPGRADED.

Can you install windows xp on a ibm 380ed laptop

Hi there,
You need to make sure your laptop meet the minimum hardware requirements for windows XP . (see below)
I believe your system has a Pentium MMX 166 MHZ processor which will not be able to run XP properly.
But that's not all, You also need to make sure IBM Lenovo provides drivers for all the hardware on your 380ED, which I don't believe it does.

Minimum hardware requirements

  • Pentium 233-megahertz (MHz) processor or faster (300 MHz is recommended)
  • At least 64 megabytes (MB) of RAM (128 MB is recommended)
  • At least 1.5 gigabytes (GB) of available space on the hard disk
  • CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive
  • Keyboard and a Microsoft Mouse or some other compatible pointing device
  • Video adapter and monitor with Super VGA (800 x 600) or higher resolution
  • Sound card
  • Speakers or headphones

Is it possible to expand ram from 512mb to 2gb in IBM ThinkPad R52 ,Intel(R) Pentium(r)M processor 1.73GHz

Hello
You have to refer it to the motherboard's manual, to get information about how much RAM can it accept, and type of RAM.

My laptop needs a better operating system

There is no modern OS that will run on hardware this old. You could put an older version of Linux on it but your software choices would still be restricted to much older versions.

Even a modern netbook will outperform your ancient laptop. Either reinstall the OS you have or get rid of the computer.

Will a 366 pentium II processor from a thinkpad 390E work in a thinkpad 390 with a 266 pentium II processor?

According to IBM's documentation the ThinkPad 390 will only officially support three processors:

Intel Pentium MMX Processor 233 MHz, L2 cache
Intel Pentium II Processor 233 MHz, L2 cache
Intel Pentium II Processor 266 MHz, L2 cache

Hope this helps

Intel Pentium II Processor Upgrade

No, this highest the P-II went to was either 400 or 450 Mhz. Upgrading a thinkpad CPU may be difficult. Considering prices on used laptops now, I wouldn't think it would be worthwhile, either.

My borther has a 390x ibm thinkpad 2626 and he is looking for a upgraded processor

Current processor should be a Pentium III 450 MHz.
As far as I know, the standard RAM os 64 MB and maximum RAM is 512 MB. Even a memory upgrade will cost you around 80$.

I would honestly suggest to forget a processor upgrade because it will cost you a lot of money. Probably more than a new laptop.
Sorry...

Ibm thinkpad 2647

Your limited with the T20 series, the biggest you can go is 1ghz. Try the Pentium M chip, make sure that it's the same mhz (frequency) that's in it now, the board frequency matches the processor frequency. (either a 100 mhz or 133 mhz, you can tell by what memory it uses PC100 or PC133)
