Question about Toro Lawn Mower With Toro Power Tools

Open Question

My zero turn Toro mower Has been very hard to start all season

Some times when running a large puff of white smoke will come out of the tailpipe and the motor will slow down.
I noticed tonight that when trying to start (and had no luck) that the round cylinder next to the motor (I believe to be the oil filter) got smoking hot why trying to turn the motor over.
The mower has both gas and oil.
It is a Toro Timecutter 42.16Z about six years old, and I can't find the owners manual to attempt any work.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

SOURCE: toro recycler will run until primed gas is consumed.

The problem is that the gas that sat in the carb all winter glazed it over and gummed it up. Begin by going to any auto parts store, like an aiutozone, and getting a bottle of carb. cleaner. Seafoam is one I use. Add it to your gas, one ounce per gallon of gas. Also, pick up a can of engine starting spray.

Remove the air filter and spray the engine starting spray into the air intake. Pull start the engine and give it additional squirts of engine starting spray until it runs smoothly.

SOURCE: billows of white smoke when Toro lawn mower runs

You overfilled the oil. If the mower runs, just go ahead and mow grass until it runs the oil out of the gas tank. Or you can empty the gas tank and fill with new gas. White smoke is not a serious problem. Only a hassle.

SOURCE: When engaging the deck mower

have you removed the sediment bowl located on the bottom of the carburetor and looked to see if there is a lot of dirt and gunk in the bowl, then while this bowl is off there will be a float (metal or plastic) make sure theres a good supply of gas running out of here where the bowl would normally be,if not, then it could be a plugged needle seat or port in your carb and will need to be cleaned

My toro fh 580v smokes when i start it what is causing it to smoke?

hi.. your inlet valve stem seals are worn out, so oil will be drawn into the inlet with vacuum , as well as fuel...this is why it smokes on start up...quick fix , do an oil change but use a car oil like 15W40 weight oil
im sure you would be using a 10w30 oil now ,using a thicker oil might stop the smoke on start up, or it just wont smoke as much, regardless of using a thicker oil...the valve stems will still need to be replace.....good luck

Hi michael, You have most certainly put in too much oil. Try draining a bit off and then clean the spark plug with some paper towel. Leave the mower level for a few hours and then try it again.

Have a toroZ5035 mower 90 turn) with kawasaki engine. **** smoke appears on start up, but goes away when warmed up. choke must be kept on at least halfway or motor dies. changed plugs and cleaned air...

**** smoke sounds bad, If what you meant was white smoke then I know what is going on with the mower. The white smoke is from the extra oil in the cylinder head. There are tow causes for this. #1 the engine rings are worn and will not prevent the oil from running into the combustion chamber as the engine sits. #2 the carburetor is leaking fuel into the oil and thinning it out. This thin oil bypasses the rings easier and drives the oil level up too. I would recommend a carburetor rebuild. You can get parts from a local dealer like www.arcolawn,com Good luck barterjoe_64.png

White smoke and blade won't engage

Sounds like a low compression problem. The piston rings have most likely failed and oil is seeping past them and burning, thus the white smoke. An engine needs three things to run...Spark, Compression, and Fuel. Just take the mower back as it is still probably under warranty. Mike. Rate 100% please.

Puffing white smoke is a sign of a blown head gasket. Coolant is getting into the cylinders.
