Problem downloading from digital cam...

Hi,
We have recently purchased an ASUS laptop and a JVC GZ-MG135AA Digital Camcorder. When I connect the two via USB, the laptop recognises the camera after I select "connect to device" on the camcorder. The problem arises after the data has downloaded from the camcorder to the laptop. When I go to play any of the movies, Windows Media Player responds with an message saying that it can't recognise the file format. The file format that the movies are in is .MOD. I go to web help and don't really make much progress after that as I am unable to find a reference to .MOD files. I myself have never actually heard of this particular file format. The issue I believe is the fact that we have Windows Vista Professional. I have downloaded the videos successfully (they download as .MPEG) onto my family's PC at home which has Windows XP. All I can think is that for some reason the JVC camcorder is not compatible to Windows Vista and the file format doesn't not come across in a format recognisable by Windows Media Player. Is there a program that can be downloaded so that Windows Media Player can recognise a .MOD file? Or is there some way of changing the file format from .MOD after it's downloaded? Some guidance/help would be greatly appreciated as this has been a most frustrating experience (of which I have tried many times over!). Many thanks, Sarah Bassett

How to convert .MOD file to mpg, avi, wmv and others?

If you got a JVC camcorder, or Panasonic camcorder or Canon MOD camcorder, you would have probably encountered such issue--- what to do with the MOD/TOD files----the God forsaken video format? And you want to convert the recorded .MOD file type to mpeg, avi, mkv, flv, mp4, wmv or whatever more common, so that you can put them on Youtube, Myspace, Google video and Hulu later on to share the camcorder video with your friends or more people? And there is another headache thing is that most major video editing suites seem to unwillingly accept the MOD/TOD format. Even windows video maker, I have to say it's too complicated to use

Someone successfully made it simply by changing the extension from .mod to mpg, but for most people, they just failed only to find there is no audio after the extension is changed, or the changed one doesn’t allow you to import these files into Windows movie maker, not to mention upload some video to Youtube.com or Facebook.

any alternativs? There is a very simple program that convert .mod NOT ONLY to mpg but many others like avi, mkv, flv, mp4, wmv, rm, rmvd, mov, dv, mg2 and swf. MOD converter is the one shoot all the trouble. This excellent mod conversion tool is not just a converter but also a video editing tool. From now on, with the MOD converter you can enjoy your mod video on many media player, even on portable devices like blackberry, Gphone, PSP, Creative Zen,etc.

Things will be easier if you take a moment to finish reading the Step by Step on how to convert .mod to mpg, avi, wmv and others

Step by Step

How to convert .mod to mpg, avi, wmv and others?

Click here to download and install it by running iOrgsoftMODconverter.exe

Step 2: Turn on your camcorder and connect it to pc. Import the .MOD file onto PC.

Run MOD converter; select the .MOD file you want to convert by clicking the Add or File button to load MOD info. Click the profile button to define the output video format.

Step 3: click the Edit button to set detailed info for the desired video.

A. Click the Trim button to set the length/range of the video that need to be converted.

You can choose a part of a MOD or the whole one to convert

B. Click the Effect button to tune the saturation, contrast, brightness values and make sure are the one you preferred, preview the change on the screen.

C. Click the Crop button to cut the unnecessary part or black part of the movie.

D. Select .AVI or .MPG and select the directory that you’d like your file stored to.

Step 4: Convert video

After all settings is done. You are ready to start conversion. This step will take you a while to carry out the conversion process, the time vary with different parameters you set.

MOD converter is a package tool, whcih actually includes mod to mpg, mod to mp4, mod to avi, mod to wmv, mod to 3gp, mod to mov, mod to ipod, mod to iphone, mod to psp, mod to iriver, mod to creative zen, mod to apple tv, mod to blackberry, mod to zune. Wait a minute, if your exported camcorder video is in a .tod extention file style , it doesn't matter, we have TOD converter.

using Windows Vista, i can't play video mpeg4 files recorded via a Xacti dig camcorder onto a 4 and 8gig sandisk card unless i open adobe which i find user unfriendly. As all my photos are via sony dig camera which uploads nicely to vista softward, i am not using my new dig camcorder at all as the thought of having to combine or simply deal with a new format is a headache to combine with 4 years of windows compatible files. help!
