The flapper is pushed down too far on the vent tube. leave about 1/2 inch of space between the bottom of the flapper flange when you seat it over the vent tube. make sure the flapper is level. if the flapper is too close to the bottom of the vent tube, it will slam shut before the flush is finished.

I want to answer my own question...... My Original Question is What if the water flow from the toilet tank shuts off to the bowl before it should stop?

There is a float that shuts the water off when it comes up to the level is was set for. It is adjustable, but it can also be defective. You can but a whole new flushing mechanism in a Home Depot, or Loews, or other hardware store. But first try to adjust the float. If the float is sticking, I would replace it.

The American Standard toilet in my apartment recently started making a muzzled sound coming from the tank. Upon further inspection I found that the water was spraying from the top of the weight system and...

When you turn on the supply the tank fills ok. I don't know the mechanism in your tank but fixed a similar problem. Check the flap that releases water to flush, if it CLOSES properly after flush otherwise it lets the water into the toilet continuously making the sound. IF closed properly, the tank fills.

Need to increase bowl water level. how do I do that

Step 1:

Remove the top lid of the tank, ...carefully, so as not to break the ceramic by dropping it on the floor accidentally. Inside exists a "lever" attached to a "float" acting as a "fulcrum," with the "float" resting on the level of the water in the tank. The more water in the tank, the more water will enter the bowl, at flushing time.

Step 2:

The level of water in the tank corresponds to the level of water entering the system upon flushing the commode (bathroom fixture). At the bottom of the tank exists a "flap" type of device (usually). As the water exits the tank into the bowl the flap seals off again, discontinuing the water's entry into the bowl. This should always seal off at the end of a "fllushing cycle." The more water in the tank at the beginning of the flush, the more will enter the bowl.

Step 3:

Therefore, raise the arm of the "lever" (sometimes it's a "vertical" post with an "adjustable float" on it; in what case one raises the float on the post, by depressing a "clip" like device on the float itself, sliding it up versus down) by bending the arm upward, ...carefully. The increased water in the "tank" by the above process should solve your problem. Be certain to note whether the "flap" closes prematurely (It shouldn't), adjusting the flap's "chain" (held up by the "handle" itself) should it close prematurely.

Step 4:

You may need to tighten the "nut" (fastener) on the "handle" inside the tank as the "chain/flap" may simply be closing prematurely, because it's "loose" (easily tightened by hand at times, versus with a small, adjustable wrench bought at a "hardware store" like "Ace Hardware").

Step 5:

The above items (one, versus several of them), should solve your problem.

I flush the toilet, tank fills up and cuts off, but the water leaks out, then the tank cuts back on to fill up and this is a vicious cycle.

Go to the hardware store and get a new flush valve flap made by Korky and install it. Your flush valve flap has worn out and allowing water to leak through.

Villeroy & Boch Sunberry close coupled pan and Subway cistern newly installed at the end of July 2010. When flushed the internal mechanism does not always drop down to stop the inlet water....

Your chain is probably metal that snags under the flap (verify by taking top off tank and looking) and you should switch to a plastic chain.

Easy just replace the flap that stops the water after handle is down and toilet flushes and also replace the chain that connects from handle to rubber flap. New chain should be plastic one so it can be reattached and problem is fixed. Should cost less then 5 bucks from Home Depot or Lowes. They can happily step you through the process. I should take about 2 minutes to install ...if that.

Remember to remove excess links of plastic chain with a pair of scissors. Its doesn't require a rocket scientist.

My Bemis Vitra A toilet does not completely flush. I ran a snake down the drain pipe, and this seems to be clear. I think the flap on the toilet may be closing prematurely. Do you have any suggestions?...

I don't know what you have tried yet, so I will start at the beginning. First, I would make sure that you have the proper amount of water filling the tank. If you do not have enough water in the tank, it will not flush the bowl properly. Next, ensure that when the flush handle is tripped it fully lifts the plunger to a close to vertical position. This can be adjusted with your chain. If it is only rising a small amount, this will cause an improper flush. Lastly, if those things seem good, check the actual plunger (aka flapper) to ensure that it is in good condition, and that it does not fill with water. Hope this helps.

Kennmore refrigerator is not making ice,but water

The control light flashes to indicate the infrared beam is being blocked. The flap on the opposite side blocks the beam when the door is open to prevent ice from being dropped on the floor rather than in the ice bin. If you pushe the flap in so it's flush with the liner (use care not to block the hole) the light should go from flashing to on in a steady state. If not, your electronics are bad and would need to be replaced. If the light does glow steady, then the problem is with your ice maker, water valve or ice maker fill tube.

Flap on ice dispensor does not close.

The flap is probably gummed up with sugar from filling glasses with sugary drinks in them. When the ice drops into the glass it splashes the drink into the chute. It needs cleaning.

Just flushing plain water over, under, around and through it will probably free it up (yeah, I kow it's going to be messy).

Heater works good then all at once starts blowing cold air

You will have to replace the thermostat...It sounds like the thermostat is not opening and closing all the way. When the car is running fast enough to heat up the water, great...heat...but at stops the thermostat is not closing all the way allowing the water to cool as it passes through the heater.
