Roller brush of my dyson dc07 isn't turning...

I tried to fixing and trying to figure out why the roller brush isn't turning but I can't even pull the roller brush completely off, the belt is tight but it does turn. But if you have the roller brush in on both sides, it doesn't turn.
Is there a way I can get the roller brush completely off the vacuum? do we need to rplace the roller brush and how would we know if it needs replacement?
Pls help!

SOURCE: dc07 dyson roller will not turn

Hi there VacuumGuru here. The only thing that can really stop it turning is either an obstruction or your brush bearings being siezed. It is a little difficult to describe the steps to solve htis problem so i have made a video. It shows how to check all the way from the the obvious right back to a faulty clutch. Have a look at the video and if it is helpful please take the time to give me a thumbs up or a testimonial. If you find that you need parts for your dyson then check out vacuumspot or nelsonvacuums.
Hope this helps

Brush won't turn on dyson dc07

There was a belt that was to be attached to the motor shaft under the belt cover, be sure that it didn't pop off. the recommended fix is to replace the clutch, not the belts in the clutch. if you only replaced the belts it could still be a bad clutch.

If you need any help feel free to contact me.

How do you change a belt on a dyson DC07

Turn vacuum over so you can see the brush.
Using a standard screwdriver, undo the three fasteners just behind the brush.
Remove the base plate.
Remove the belt.
Remove roller brush.
Place new belt on roller brush and center it in position.
Feed belt through the hole, and return brush to position.
Ensure the brush ends are located in the slots correctly.
Pull the belt over the motor shaft.
Rotate the brush a few times to ensure belt is centered and secure.
Replace the base plate, tighten fasteners, and rotate the brush a few more times to make sure it turns properly and the belt isn't caught.

I have a dyson dc07 with a malfuncitoning clutch diagnosed here on fixya. I've replaced the clutch and the grinding noise when the clutch is engaged for carpet and non rotating brush problem presists. This...

Greetings from GoVacuum,

If you have replaced the clutch already, then this can really only be one other problem, and that is the roller brush. If the roller brush's bearing have locked up, and the brush is no longer spinning, this is going to cause the clutch to make that horrible grinding noise, and a lot of people incorrectly think automatically that the clutch needs to be replaced.

Here's a very easy way that you can test the roller brush on your Dyson to see if it may have gone bad. In 10 years of fixing and selling vacuum cleaners, I have never seen such a cheap roller brush that's in the Dyson DC07 models with clutches, unfortunately this is notorious problem we see on this particular model.

Ok, so to test out the brush, make sure the vacuum is unplugged, and turn it upside down. Remove the 3 plastic screws on the bottom plate, and remove the bottom plate to expose the brush completely.

You may then simply pull upwards on the roller brush, and take the brush out of the belt that is wrapped around it. After the brush has been completely removed from the vacuum cleaner, hold the brush with only your pointer fingers in each hand, and only put your pointer fingers on the outside of the bearing caps on each side of the roller brush.

While holding only the bearing caps with your fingers, try to spin the brush with your thumbs. The brush should spin freely in your fingers, and you should get a good 5 or 6 rotations with each spin.

If the brush doesn't spin, then your roller brush has gone bad. Espcecially with home that have long haired pets, or females, the hair gets between the bearing cap and the bearing inside and causes the plastic caps that are covering the bearings to heat up, ultimately causing the bearing caps to melt, and finally the bearings sieze, and the brush will no longer spin freely which is why the clutch makes that awful noise.

Good news is that the roller brush is not as expensive or as difficult to replace as the clutch was. You may purchase the DC07 roller brush here;
Genuine Dyson DC-07 Roller Brush for Models That Use a Clutch Part # 904174-01

If your roller brush does spin, then I'm baffled as to what could be causing the clutch to make noise, but I'd like to try and help you figure this out.

Please send me an email to chris.jones@govacuum.com, or just request a clarification request here on Fixya, and I'd be more then happy to try and diagnosis this Dyson further for you.

Thank you so much, I hope that this helps you.

Buy the brush over the web etc..

To take the brush out
1 - Take the outer covering - uese a penny to turn the yellow srews

2 - Slide the black brush out from the assembly - Try the non belt side first.

3- Slide the belt out of the brush.

4 - Take brush out - Replace it with new one.

Dyson vacuum brush roll doesn't turn

The brushbar should only turn when you meet two conditions:
1) When you step on the front of the machine and pull back on the handle (recline the machine in other words)
2) The dial is set to CARPETS

The brushbar shouldn't turn at all when it is set to the BEAR FLOORS setting.

To rectify the problem - call the Dyson Helpline so that they can refer you to an authorized dealer in your area - the repair dealer will inspect the dial and figure out why the functionality seems to be switched. They'll be able to fix it for you.

Brush bar on my dyson dc07 will not turn.

Hi.

Your Dc07 may have A clutch unit.
Check that when you pull back handle to vacuum that the clutch control knob which is located front lower left side of machine moves to drive position & is not stuck in off or park position.
Rotate it to drive if its at off or park when you have lowered handle.

If adter checking this you still have no brush rotation you will need to remove clutch unit to either replace thr belts or fit new clutch.
Try this site for further help http://dysonmanuals.llc.nu/

If you dont have the clutch arangement then just turn the three plastic screws on the sole plate ( Under front of machine) to unlock pull off sole plate & fit new belt to brush roller.

Easy job to do.

Dyson DC07 Vaccum - brush will not turn

Hi.

Your Dyson has A clutch unit this engages the brush roller when you pull the handle back to vacuum.

Check the clutch control knob which is at the bottom left side of machine looking from the front.
It should rotate to drive position when handle is pulled back.

If it doesnt turn the knob by hand to drive & try the machine.

If you still have no brush rotation after doing all this then UNPLUG machine from mains supply.
Now lay machine on its side & remove the sole plate, This is the cover over the brush roller.
Turn the 3 plastic screws to unlock postition & lift sole plate off.

Now try to yurn brush roller using your hand. It should turn freely if it is difficult to turn look for any foriegn object obstructing the roller.

If no obstruction found then remove the brush roller from the machine & check the bearings in the ends of the brush roller one or both may be siezed up if they are then new brush roller will solve the problem.

If bearings are good then either the clutch is faulty or the second belt which goes clutch to motor has snapped & will need replacing.

It is difficult to fully explain the clutch removing procedure,
But there are service manuals available for these repairs at this site
