GT 704 WG telephone line DSL filter no work

GT 704 WG telephone line DSL filterappears to no longer function. Constant static on telephone line. Internet disconnects when receiving a telephone call. Modem is only four months old. has worked up till now. Problem appeared suddenly.

Try to replace the filter first. That will solve the issue.

This is Neo . Check the Filters in the phone line if you have installed the filter . if there is no filters before the telephone , install a filter . Whether the phone line are connected properly and check the wall point where the connection from the DSL and telephones . Check the cords and try changing the RJ11 cords . RJ cors the phone thin cords .
NOTE : FILTERS SHOULD BE INSTALLED FOR TELEPHONES BUT NOT FOR 2 WIRE .

Loud static noise with dial tone and humming during conversation


There is not enough information in your question to diagnose properly the source of interferences. I will however venture an educated guess. If your broadband internet connection is some form of DSL you must put filter on all the telephone sets. In other words, the telephone line going from the wall to a telephone set must pass through a DSL filter.

Caller ID and Call Waiting ID are subscription services, available from most local telephone service providers. You must subscribe to these services in order for the features to work on your phone. Contact your local telephone service provider for more information.

In addition, your caller must be calling from an area that supports caller ID.

Both you and your caller’s telephone service provider must use compatible caller ID systems.

If you subscribe to DSL service for this telephone line, DSL filters must be plugged into EVERY phone jack that has a phone. The DSL signal can cause caller ID disruption, static, noise and other issues on your line. DSL filters block the high frequency DSL signals from being transmitted to the telephone. If you are not using the DSL filters provided by the telephone company, this will cause static/noise and possibly caller id issues on your phones.

In most cases, we recommend you connect the plug end of the DSL filter into the telephone jack, then connect a telephone cord between the filter and your phone.

Please contact your service provider to obtain DSL filters and installation information.

Caller ID and Call Waiting ID may not be available for every call. Common reasons are incompatibilities between your and your caller’s service, transmission errors and answering calls before the ID data is received.

Actiontec GT 704 WG Verizon to Frontier


You will have to contact Frontier and give them the Mac address of the equipment and they will tell you if it will work or not ( and they will also need to put it in their system)

You will need to get a DSL filter to separate the DSL(broadband) from the talk line. These can be purchased at any store that supports computers.

VTech products are generally poorly designed and manufactured. You can probably notice the FCC Warnings on the device that say that you must accept all interference that you may recieve while in use. Go out, splurge a little, and find a telephone made by a well known company like Panasonic, Sony, etc.

Internet connection


Are u using a DSL connection? If so, this intermittent disconnection is caused when the DSL filter is not working or you have not connected the modem to the DSL filter at all. Make sure the filter is connected to the main line (main telephone line) and plug in the modem to the DSL port and the telephone to the other port as mentioned on the filter.

Telephone connection problem with DSL


unplug everthing from all jacks in the house. call your # a couple of times. if the line rings, plug everything in 1 at a time, but call again after each hook up. if the line goes dead or is busy, that phone you just plugged in is the problem. [ a short in the phone, computer, answer machine, or any piece of equipment plugged into the phone line.] if the line is busy when everything is unplugged, call your phone company. there maybe a problem with your inside wire.there also maybe a box [called a nid] inside your basment/garage or on the side of your house, where you can plug your phone directly in, bypassing all the jacks in your house

FIRST YOU MUST DETERMINE IF THERE IS STATIC ON YOUR PHONE LINE. EVEN WITH DSL THERE CAN BE STATIC EVEN IF THE INTERNET IS WORKING. IF YOU HAVE A CORDED PHONE TAKE IT OUT TO THE PHONE INTERFACE BOX AND OPEN THE BOX / THERE SHOULD BE A PLACE YOU CAN UNPLUG YOUR WIRING FROM THE PHONE COMPANY. PLUG YOUR PHONE INTO WHERE YOU UNPLUGGED THE WIRING AND SEE IF YOU HAVE STATIC THERE. IF YOU STILL HEAR STATIC IT IS THE PHONE COMPANY'S PROBLEM.

SOMETIMES UNPLUGGING FROM BOTH THE PHONE LINE AND THE POWER SOURCE AND REMOVING THE BATTERIES WILL CORRECT SOME PROBLEMS. FOR SECOND PHONES ON A SYSTEM THEY MUST BE REGISTERED TO THE BASE. ONCE IT IS REGISTERED IT SHOULD SHOW A NUMBER IN CORNER OF SCREEN (2)

DSL line. Possible that filters are not plugged in. When DSL service is being used on your line, filters must be installed at every jack that is in use. The DSL signal can cause static/noise, squealing (similar to fax tones) and other issues on your line. (ex. Caller ID problems). In order to avoid having this issue, the service provider gives DSL filters to all customers when they sign up for service. These microfilters must be used because they allow your phones to work properly by blocking the high frequency DSL signals from being transmitted through the telephones. DSL filters should be plugged into EVERY phone jack that has a phone. If you are not using the filters provided by the telephone company, this will cause static/noise and possibly Caller ID issues on your phones that are plugged into jacks without filters. Please contact your service provider for filter information and proper installation. Interference: Other 2.4 GHz products. Other products that use the 2.4 GHz band can interfere with the use of this phone. Items include: Radio towers, pager towers, cell phones, other 2.4GHz cordless phones and 2.4 GHz intercoms or monitors. If any of these items are in the area, they can interfere with the performance of this phone; try relocating the phone. Other 5.8 GHz products. Other products that use the 5.8 GHz band such as home networking (wireless modems) other 5.8 GHz cordless products (phones etc.) can interfere with the use of this phone. Try relocating the phone. Interference from microwave. Microwaves work on the same frequencies as the 2.4 GHz phones. If the unit is on when the microwave is running, it is normal to experience static at that time. Do not plug this phone in the same outlet or near the microwave. Environmental. Normal radio operation. There may be places within your environment that a cordless phone will not work well. If the problem only occurs in certain areas of your environment, there is nothing wrong with the phone. Try channing channels. Surge protector or modem. Unplug modem or surge protector that is connected to the unit. Building structure limits range. Relocate telephone base near window when using telephone outside. Base unit located in basement or other low area. Relocate telephone base to higher location. The unit will get better reception if it is not located in a low area. Video displays, television sets and personal computers may cause interference. Video displays, television sets and personal computers can cause interference on this phone. Please relocate the phone to an AC outlet were there is no major appliance plugged in. If the base is near any of the above mentioned, locate the base to another room. Possible telephone line/service problem. Try using your equipment at a different location (i.e. friend or neighbors). If the unit functions properly in the new location, contact your local telephone company for assistance; additional charges to be incurred by customer may apply.
