Question about Jensen XS-1010 Car Subwoofer

Home theatre subwoofer

I have a Jensen sub with my home theatre system. It'll make random burst of bass even after the tv has been turned off or if it's gone a while without any music where it's needed. It drives me crazy. It's like a random giant burp.
Is there an adjustment on the sub itself or in the audio set-up to prevent this from happening? My product wasn't listed below.

My home theatre sub woofer ( Jensen ) works when it feels like it. If I turn the mains power off and let it power down, then swithch it back on, it works ok for about 20min. After that time, no bass is emmitted. It drives me crazy. It is the same going from the TV to the DVD.

Sounds like you have a loose signal lead. Check to see if this cab be tightened if not replace the cable as this could be the cause of the problem. Over time the leads/plugs do loosen especially on subs as they vibrate so much. If it's not this then it's probably something internal to which I am reluctant to advise you on looking at yourself unless you are pretty proficient with electronics :P

Hello Guys,Can you please help? can I replace the sub woofer on my sony home theatre system DAV-DZ231 with a Celestion sub woofer s10

Presumably, the Celestion subwoofer is self-powered in which case it would connect to an RCA subwoofer output on your Sony system if there is one.

I have a Jensen KS212 and I'm connecting it to a home theatre receiver direct to see if it works but nothing comes out of it. Does this mean the sub is not working or there's not enough power from...

Hi, welcome to FixYa..

Your subwoofer requires a seperate amplifier that has low pass filter in the pre out system, which means it will allow all low frequency signals from the input section of the amplifier/ crossover. Your receiver has combined signals of high, mid and midbass signals that will not be able to drive your subwoofer. That is the main reason why some receivers has "Subwoofer Out" to allow you to use "Active Subwoofer systems" (also known has self powered or has a built in amplifier w/ subwoofer)
For you to use your Subwoofer, it must have a seperate amplifier, connect it to Sub out of your receiver and from there you can hear the difference. Hope this helps.

Can i use my jensen jxp340 amp with my one 800watt 12" 4 ohm subwoofer?

Yes, technically you can, however you will be putting both your sub and your amp at risk. One of the worst things you can do to a sub is underpower it. The easiest way to explain it is n ot giving enough power to the sub leaves it starving for power. The motor structure ends up working too hard to try and move the cone properly and what happens is the sub will usually seize up rather than blowing out in the term you usually hear (ie, I had my system cranked up and I blew my subwoofer).

Secondly, in an attempt to get any real sound out of the under powered sub, you'll probably end up cranking the gain and bass boost on the amp which ends up overworking the amplifier quite a bit and can in turn lead to fried out amp chips, burnt up circuit boards etc.

Thirdly, by maxing the gain bass boost you're going to end sending a lot of distortion through your subwoofer in an attempt to get some decent bass. Distortion kills both subwoofers and speakers alike.

So to answer your question, yes you can hook up your subwoofer to that amp and yes, it will probably play for a while but I wouldn't recommend it. Look for a class d or mono block amp to push your sub as these will give you the most power and best heat dissipation. They are designed to push subwoofers specifically and you will get better sound and longer life out of your equipment. A good rule of thumb is look for an amp within 100-150 watts of both your RMS power handling and your Peak power. Remember, when it doubt, always go a little bigger on the amp side of the spectrum. It's easy to "tune down" an amp by having the gain and bass boost at a lower level (50%, 25% etc), than to turn 'em all the way up just to get some bass and end up prematurely blowing out your sub, amp or even worse, both.

My bass powered subwoofer on JVC system doesn't turn on

You need to check the signal. If there is not signal present or the volume is low the sub will not turn on and goes in to sleep mode.

Want to attach a extra subwoofer

If you have a "subwoofer-out" jack on the back of the receiver, you can put a y-cord on it and connect it to two powered subwoofers. Don't expect a big difference in the sound, however. You may even get less bass depending on where you position the sub-woofers.

Have an existing ts-1100 home theatre infinity speakers

You cannot use this system with one that does not have a Subwoofer or LFE (Low Frequency Effect) output. Unfortunately, this sub doesn't have a line-level (speaker wire) input. Sorry.

Subwoofer Bass Level Problems

What is your sub stood on? If it is on a piece of furniture then this could be the problem. Bass frequencies travel further than higher frequencies due to their longer wavelength and will also be transmitted through any solid objects the speaker is in contact with. The solution is to mount your sub on a piece of foam to provide some damping.

Also if your sub has a port (a hole) on the back or side this needs to have a good 3 or 4 inches clearance from nearby walls or panels.

Finally the speaker cone itself needs to have a clear path to push sound energy into the room, if this path is blocked by furniture (some people like to hide them under tables) then it may make that furniture vibrate.
