Question about Black & Decker AS175 Iron

My AS175 does the opposite! It constantly turns itself off!

Even when I am using it.  This is the second time that a Black and Decker iron has gone wrong in under a years use.  Great product, highly unreliable.

    I called tracked down customer service, which was some other company besides Black and Decker, but deal with B and D warranties. The name escapes me, but I'm sure you know who I mean. Regardless, I have cut off the plug of the iron and sent it off.

Please get rid of this iron! I had one and it caught on fire completely destroying my home and my belongings. I contacted Black and Decker and they asked me to SEND them the iron!! Helllooooo....it burned up...there's nothing to send.

PLEASE DO NOT BUY OR USE THIS IRON!!

Black and decker all temp steam iron stopped working while ironing and now it won't turn on.


please see the cause and fix it:
a) tank or ports clogged. Dissasembly and inspect replace tank and seal if badly clogged. Emptying iron after each use allow heats to evaporate remaining water and helps prevent clooging. Inspect valve and linkage: clean or replace as necessary

Why does my iron take so long to heat up


check the voltages american is 120 and europeon is 220 so if your in america make sure you dont have a 220 volt version

My Black and Decker Steav Xpress AS 685 will not heat properly.

The black and decker iron wont heat up


It probably has a high temp overload opened up inside or the thermostat control has gone bad.You can only tell for sure by taking the unit apart and testing the circuit for continuity.The steam feature on the iron is heated by the same element that heats the iron so it wont work.the element itself could also be bad,but I have never seen one go bad.You will have to check each component seperately to find the damaged part.or you can test the whole circuit at the plugs end,and use a jumper across each part until you have continuity through the unit.Make sure the thermostat is turned all the way up.the part that you are bypassing when you get continuity is the bad part.
You can buy a cheap continuity checker at any lowes,or even wallmart for that matter.

Melted material on face of iron


Yes- I had the same problem and could not clean it off. It was a plastic sticker that melted on the iron plate- placed there by the manufacturer. I called Customer Service at Black and Decker, and after all their solutions failed- they sent me a new iron. But this one leaks water terribly to the point where the clothes are soaked after only 1 or 2 articles are ironed! I am beginning to lose faith in Black and Decker products.
