Question about Acer Monitor Lcd 24in G24 Wide 1920x1200@60hz

1 Answer

LCD screen jumps to the right when there is white on the screen.

I recently changed from hdmi to dvi (because the adapter broke) and now whenever i use my lcd screen and there is white on the screen it jumps 1 inch to the right like its having a seizure. the jumps seem to be more severe the more white there is on the screen.

i cant figure out why it would do this...
ive tried updating my drivers, no effect.

please help.

it never jumped. and they are using the same port on the graphics card. i have 2 dvi ports and it does it on both.

perhaps unrelated: i cant change the monitor from 59 to 60hz (it doesnt save and apply, just reverts every time)

ive tested your solution. it seems that the other monitor works fine, so its not the graphics card. im ordering a new dvi to hdmi cable as i think this one is stuffed. plus itll save me using a hdmi cable to a hdmi- dvi converter.

I think the dvi port controller may be bad. Did the HDMI adapter ever jump?

Okay, best thing to try to do if possible. Try another known good working monitor on the DVI ports. If the screen still jumps then you know the video card is faulty. IF the known good monitor works on the video card then you know the original monitor is bad.

HDMI and DVI use the same encoding scheme for video purposes- the only difference is HDMI can carry audio signals and therefore have different connectors- so it is not like the lack of a picture signal is because you are using two different cables (HDMI and DVI). In theory the DVI to HDMI adapter should work.
Is there a possibility that the adapter is defective? Any bent or missing pins?
How long are the cables? If they are of poor quality, a digital signal can be lost at 20 feet. Again, in theory.
The only other thing I can thing of, off the top of my head is to ask, did you change the input selection on your t.v.'s display screen to go from the input source that you get your t.v stations from... to the input source of the Play Station?

Monitor has permanent vertical bars down the right side of the display

Hi there! If you've ruled out any "bad caps" as well as tested both the VGA & DVI inputs, then I would speculate that the actual screen itself has gone bad. If this is indeed the case, then I'd recommend popping for a replacement monitor. By the way, if you own a mid-sized flat panel LCD TV which has HDMI ports on it, you can use that for your monitor instead.. If your video card on the computer doesn't (natively) have an HDMI-out jack, then you can order a "DVI-HDMI" adapter on-the-CHEAP at -- That's where I get all my "specialty adaptors". They truly have the best prices around!

I hope I've helped you at least a bit! I wish you the best of luck!

I have a syncmaster 400p i need a new graphic processor can u reccomend a compatible one

Good day,

If your screen has a VGA, DVI, or HDMI port, most of the new graphics cards will be compatible with your screen. Most graphics cards come standard with DVI ports and include a vga adapter for the screen cable. Some of the new graphics cards come with HDMI and DVI ports or a HDMI converter if you want to use HDMI.

I would recommend a Nvidia graphics card. Depending on what your primary use is going to be they have an extensive range to cater for your requirements and price range.

Hope this helps!

How do i connect my laptop to my lcd to watch films off the net

Depending on how old your laptop is, or what make it is, you may have few or several options. Some manufacturers have their own proprietary adapters/dongles for video out, but most at least give you VGA out, and others may have DVI, or the newest: an HDMI connector at the back.
If a proprietary dongle is provided, you're stuck with whatever it is they offer. It could be as poor as composite video (3 leads: yellow, white and red), S-Video (better), or best: component video for HD viewing. The first one offers you standard 640 x 480 definition, at 4:3 viewing ratio, while component offers you 1080i, using three leads to connect your
laptop to the LCD. Fortunately, most LCDs have component connectors. If the latter is available, this would be a great option, provided your LCD supports at least 720p, considered to be HD, though not the highest HD. The highest is 1080p.
Depending where you are in this wide scenario, the main thing is to get your LCD TV (I assume) hooked up the right way. The simplest way is to connect it using VGA, assuming your LCD has VGA as an input option. The next one would be to find an adapter to make the match. eg: DVI to HDMI, or vice versa; or VGA to DVI, etc. However the ideal one would be to have matching connectors at both the laptop and the LCD TV: HDMI to HDMI, or DVI to DVI, or component leads at both ends.
Good luck!

No input detected on projector

it sounds like the A/V reciever does not upconvert the component signal to HDMI. Not many do. The Marantz recievers will (SR6001, SR8001, etc..). Also bear in mind that HDMI cables are finicky and may require amplification over a few meters long.
