SOURCE: GE washing machine, wont spin
Same problem (but without any smell). You should try to reset the two computer boards in the washer. You do this by 1) unplugging machine and wait for 30 secs; 2) plug in machine; and 3) open and fully close the lid at least 5 times. This resets computer boards, which can get messed up by power surges, etc.

Check to see if the motor is spinning the belt. If the motor is not spinning, check to make sure there are not loose or broken wires. you can use a mutli-tester or ohmmeter/voltmeter to check any relays and fuses. If all fuses and relays are good, check to see if there is power coming from power supply to motor. If there is power, the motor is bad, if there is not power, the power supply may be bad.

Hi, open lid , look carefully there's a slot where you can activate switch, use something none metalic, like pen and press to activate.

I would replace the belt first. It is easy to change and if you are smelling a burning smell, it is the belt burning. You may have other issues but if the belt is burning we know you need that. To change the belt you will need to remove the front of the washer. You will need to insert a small flat screwdriver under the front lip of the washer. The front top left and the front top right, you will simply push the screwdriver into the clip to release the front. The belt will be easily changed by reaching under the motor and around the pulley. This is one of the easiest belts to change. Give it a try and call if you need help. Good luck.
