Question about RCA HD52W59 HDTV Projection Television
When you lose auto convergence - the culprit is the FL321 fuse.
(Fuseable Link #321) You will see the designation silkscreened directly on the circuitboard.
This fuse comes directly from a terminal on the high voltage transformer, which had a solder ring crack around it which could have caused the fuse to blow.
Soldering the transformer (flyback) terminals and replacing the fuse fixed the problem. The fuses are located to the right of the transformer at the rear of it.
This one was a 400ma/125v. rating.
Having speakers too close should not be the reason for the blown fuse - probably a coincidence.
SUMMARY: The first thing to do on this TV with a convergence issue is to replace fuse FL321 (.4A 125v) and re-solder the flyback. That fuse feeds the standby voltage for the convergence board's power supply. That fuse is beside the flyback transformer on the deflection board.
If you choose to have the repair done, you're looking at $300 (depending on your location).
About $4 and 2 hours of your time if you do it yourself.
WARNING - I always include in TV repair questions that Solid State repairs should be done by trained professionals - as there are potentially LETHAL amounts of stored energy that must be discharged before servicing any part inside the TV. Working on them while charged - or improperly discharged can lead to serious injury or death.
That said - many lay-persons have successfully completed this repair with reasonable precautions adhered to.
