Yeah i can understand. Many HP Pavilion users & compaq users are facing same problem. Its due to the reason that the XP or Vista is not properly synchronized with their sound drivers & hence not capable to controlling that LED connected internally to sound hardware.

And also few people found out that LED is totally electrically-SHORT and hence permanently on and has no control from software.

If this solution was helpful to you then please rate 100% (or FIXYA) for this solution, otherwise don't rate at all. It was my pleasure helping you.

Why don't I have volume?

Check whether the audio is muted by accidental press at remote control button. Enter its sound menu, and check it. If muted, as you know there will be no audio output. If not muted, check the speaker/s. If found OK; check and replace the damaged component/s at its audio output section circuit board. If needy, replace this board as card basis. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. Surf the site with patience.

I have a JVC RX 554v Receiver when it's turned on I have no sound their is a mute auto light that's lit in the window....Tried changing the speaker wires with no results...

From the remote control only: Press MUTING to turn off the sound through all speakers and headphones connected. "MUTE" appears on the display and the volume turns off. To restore the sound, press MUTING again. Turning MASTER VOLUME or pressing VOLUME +/- also restores the sound.

The audio light is red whether the sound is muted or not

1) Try updating your sound drivers, they probably control the light. It could be a hardware issue, and if the drivers don't work, there may not be any solution for you.

2) You should go into control panel and into your sound settings. There should be a number of devices listed. One of them is your HDMI output. You need to click on it and set it to the default sound output device. When you unplug your HDMI, you may need to do this again to get your regular computer speakers working.

Hp dv 7-1135nr speaker won't work, headphones do

I suddenly got the same problem on my dv4-1120us today.. However by updating the audio driver to this one it started working again:

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp41501-42000/sp41616.exe

You better take a look at HP's website.. maybe you will need a slightly different driver, since your computer is not exactly the same as mine. I'm sure the sound card is the same, but better safe than sorry. good luck!

go to compaq.com and reinstall the hot-key software for your laptop. seems to be a bad driver, could also be bad hardware though, if it is bad hardware you may be looking for someone to take it apart to fix it. more than likely though it is a driver which can be fixed with just installing new software.

"Mystery" indicator and no audio

The problem with the audio must be a problem with how the speakers are connected. You do not need to turn on the internal amplifier in this radio, it is always on. You said you connected the four speaker wires to the two speakers. You may have used the wrong wires. The front speaker wires from the radio are the white, white with black stripe for one speaker and the grey, grey with black stripe for the other front speaker. make sure each speaker you are connecting has the matching colors from the radio connected to it. meaning that one speaker will have a white wire and a white with black stripe wire, the other speaker will have the grey wire and the grey with black stripe wire. The purple and green wires should be seperated and insulated off from each other so that nothing can touch them that has any conductive surface.

The red led indicator is just for knowing that the radio is on. No other function for that. The muting for these is called "ATT" for attenuation and is located in the top left of the face.

make sure your speakers (terminals only) are not grounded to the chassis of the car, this can blow up the internal amplifier of the radio and this can result in no sound. If you can measure the voltage of the speaker wires coming out of the radio, they should measure at about 6 to 7 volts. If any one of the 8 speaker wires is not at that level, you have a blown amplifier IC in the radio. They all should measure the same give or take a few millivolts, if not the amp is bad.

Let me know if this help you at all. and a good rating would be appreciated for this free help.

Thanks,

Dave
