Question about Sony MDS-JE470 Mini Disc Player

SONY MDS-JE480 "C71 - DIN Unlock" persistent problem

I've had this MDS-JE480 deck for a little over a year, and suddenly it refuses to do an optical/digital sync record. It has worked flawlessly for dozens and dozens of MDs until now.

I get the alternating messages "C71" and "DIN Unlock." I changed optical cables, cleaned everything with compressed air, and tested the output device (DVD player) with an old portable. Even got a replacement optical input module and put it in, to no avail.

This is the 2nd of these to die on me; with the first the carriage mechanism self-destructed. Any fresh ideas?

1) The manual is available for free from Sony.

2) It means you are trying to record a digital file ... and the SCMS Copy System will not allow you to make a digital copy of a digital original. It has to do with copyright law.

Just record it via the analog input. You can, in fact, make a digital copy of an analog file, if you wish.

Din unlock c71

the input source you have selected is not working. If digital it might be a copy guarded source which the deck cannot read...

If you get fancier and are trying to record the optical output from a newer device like a 5.1 or 7.1 receiver although the signal will go through the MD deck cannot decode the advanced optical signal. There are adaptor boxes on eBay which decode 5.1 & 7.1 optical signals to an optical signal the older MD can read and record from.

Try selecting another source like analog RCA. The digital stuff I mentioned applies to digital RCA and Optical Cables like toslink.

Jd520 error read c71

DIN unlock is related to a digital clock being missing so the unit is looking for a digital input of some kind. Since your laptop is putting out analog change the MD input to analog and of course use the correct inputs. A 1/8" or 3.5mm audio cable may fit into an optical port but it will never work in that way.

My mini disc player is displaying din unlock c71 i cannot record

You have probably chosen a source which is not active, there are other reasons but usually your selector switch is set to a dead input with nothing to record from.

I'm trying to record on to my mini disc recorded (sony MDS JB940) and it's flashing Din Unlock c71. how can i solve this problem?

"The definiton in the manual suggests you are trying to record a digital bitstream that is either dead or incompatible with the recorder."

That is completely wrong. DIN UNLOCK means what the first poster said - that you are trying to make a digital copy of a digital copy. You cannot (for legal reasons). Record via analog.

ABSOLUTELY DO NOT TRY TO CLEAN YOUR LENS WITH ALCOHOL AND A Q-TIP. It has nothing whatsoever to do with your problem and you may well damage or destroy the lens or the transport.

Usually, you are trying to record DIGITALLY from a source that has 'copy protection'. Try recording thru the Analog jacks, and you shouldn't have this problem.

Is the tape write-protected? If so, remove the protection.

Hi - You can download the manual from the link underlined in blue below:

MDS-JE480

The error you have is probably:

This means that you are trying to record from the Digital Input, if you want to record from an analogue input do the following:
