If you can remove the print head, then rinse it under the tap, dry thoroughly then try it again. Hope this helps

SOURCE: the printer acts like it is printing, but doesnt actually print

1. Clean the scanner/copier glass and white scan backing on the inside of the top lid with glass cleaner. If there is any foreign material on the glass or white scan backing, the scanner will include it as part of the image resulting in extra pages. OR FOLLOW THESE STEPS This normally occurs because one of the ink cartridges is low on ink. To fix this, do the following:

  1. Check the amount of ink remaining in the ink cartridges by checking the Estimated Ink Levels tab in the HP Toolbox. The HP Toolbox can be opened by one of the following methods:
    • To open the HP Toolbox click Start , click Programs ( All Programs in Windows XP), click Hewlett-Packard , locate and click the HP all-in-one product folder, and then click HP Toolbox .
    • If the HP Toolbox cannot be found using the above method, it can be opened from the HP Director. Click Settings , click Printer Settings , and then click Printer Toolbox .
Replace any ink cartridge that is low on ink.
  2. Print a self-test page from the all-in-one. If the colors are correct on the self-test page and are not faded or light, continue troubleshooting with Step 3. If one or more colors are incorrect, missing, or fade out, the ink cartridge should be replaced. To print a self-test page:
    1. Press the Setup or Menu button until Print Report appears in the display, and then press Enter .
    2. Press the Setup or Menu button until Self-Test appears in the display, and then press Enter .
  3. If the colors are only slightly off, some all-in-ones have a Color Intensity setting that can be adjusted. Increase the Color Intensity slider to enhance the colors. If your all-in-one has this option, it can be found in the Copy screen when using the Director to setup the copy. For more information on this setting, review the copying information in the Reference Guide or click Help in the Director to view the help files.
  4. When printing on some photo papers, the black areas may have a greenish cast when photo paper is the selected paper type. Try changing the paper type setting to HP Bright White paper or Plain paper.
  5. Perform the steps listed in the Step 3 of the 'White lines through copies' section above to clean the ink cartridges and then make another copy to see if the problem still exists.
  6. Service your product, if the problem still exists. (PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF QUESTION 6)

SOURCE: How can you clean print

just take out the ink cartridge and clean off the bottom of it, that is the print head. you may need to clean under the plastic piece that it sits in. That may have hair or fuzz on it that is dragging across print.

BOUGHT NEW CARTRIDGES (BLACK & COLOR) COST $70!! WILL NOT PRINT. SOUNDS LIKE PRINTING BUT BLANK PAGES COME OUT. . IS THERE A WAY TO CLEAN- UNCLOG PRINTHEADS MYSELF WITHOUT TAKING TO SERVICE MAN. CAN'T...

There are a few things you can do yourself to try and get the print heads flowing again, but they won't give you as good of results as a professional cleaning or new print head. I would say that the print head is most likely clogged if you let the machine sit for more than a few weeks without printing on it. If your last set of cartridges worked fine and then you immediately put in new cartridges and it didn't print, I would say the print heads may not be clogged but expired (no amount of cleaning will get them working again). To clean the print heads yourself first rub off any accumulated ink with a warm water soaked paper towel. As a check to see how your cleaning progress is going press the print head against a dry paper towel. You should see distinct entire lines for each color. You can then try resting the print head on a paper towel soaked in warm water to hydrate the print head. If no ink soaks into the towel at all after a few minutes the print head needs more cleaning than you can do yourself. Unless you know someone with a hand held garment steamer with a narrow nozzle on it you can steam the print head to loosen up the ink stuck in it.

I have red lines that go accross the the page. It is inconsistent. Sometimes just the top Qt other time the whole page. Tried nozzel cleaning and new ink.

It is caused by waste ink at bottom plate of head. Print blank pages for cleaning itself. You can clean it by put wet tissue at bottom side of head. Turn off printer, move head to center. Put wet tissue at pad. Move head to parking position. Wait for 15 minutes. Print blank pages for checking.

Pages printing blank

Resolving white, light lines or streaks (eliminate light stripes)

From the printer, print the Troubleshooting Print Quality Pages.
With Troubleshooting highlighted, press the OK button.
Scroll to Print Quality Problems by pressing the Up or Down Arrow button. Press OK.

Scroll to Troubleshooting Print Quality Page. Press OK.
Evaluate the Light Stripes Test page for missing printhead jets (missing cyan, magenta, yellow or black color bars).

Clean the maintenance unit's wiper blade and empty the waste tray. A dirty maintenance drawer wiper blade can cause white lines and weak or missing printhead jets. Using a clean lint-free cloth or a paper coffee filter, gently clean the blade with a wiping motion across the entire length of the wiper blade.

Solid Blank Line

If it's blank, is this on what you send/recieve?

Also if you print something like a status sheet, is it missing on those too? If so, your print head needs replacing.

If its on copies/sents you need to clean the scanner head.

Epson Stylus CX6400

Blank pages are indicative ofdried ink.

If the printer has not been used for a long time ink may have settled and dried in the heads.

You may need to replace the cartridges (IF they are very old) and run several head cleanings if there is no improvement.

I typicall try to print a few test pages to see if some of the color work.

I have blank lines through my printouts

Run the cleaning cycle. If that doesn't work, try to use an alcohol soaked swab on the print head. Some of the jets are clogged.
