My unit....The LCX-28CHD will power on and then power right back off.

No it will NOT operate radar.

batteries go flat with use
if it has a battery it will be replaceable
it is rechargeable it will have a plug jack for a charger
download the pdf user manual from the manufacturer site

Before you give up on the LGC-12S you have now though, try plugging the LGC-12S right into the LCX-15CT without an extension cable. If the module not responding goes away...you just need a new extension (GPSX-25G p/n 99-46).

The power cable has a set of yellow, blue, orange, and bare data wires. If these wires short together, you can get the module not responding error.

If all that doesn't help...the LGC-12S is bad.

The LGC-12W p/n 112-06 will work with the LCX-15CT. You probably get this at many marine electronics dealers or go to lei-extras.com and buy it straight from Lowrance. They cost $229 so you might want to shop around putting that money into a whole new system altogether.
Make sure you have the latest software updates if you get the newer LGC-12W. These can be downloaded at http://www.lowrance.com/en/Downloads/Product-Software-Updates/

Just make sure your power is good and that all of the power connections are clean. Install software updates from http://www.lowrance.com/en/Downloads/Product-Software-Updates/ if you don't already have the latest.

If all of that checks out, take the rebate letter that Lowrance will offer you since they can't fix it any longer and think about the new fishfinder you want to buy. They won't make you send that LCX-15 back so if it is usable at all you can still go with it.

There is no repair facility anywhere that will be able to fix this cheap enough for you. I guess you could check with some electronic repair shops and see if they could take a look, but most likely wouldn't be worth the money...you'd be better off putting the money into a new unit.

Hello LJones0455. From your detailed attempts there are few options. Position the transducers one foward one aft. Connect the negitives of the battiers to the boat still route both positive & negitive wiring to all devices. Check the continunity of your transducers include flexing while ohming. Let me know of the results.

It sounds like you may have to send it out for service, but before you you do there are a few things you can try.

Low voltage can cause erratic behavior. Since you already wired directly to the battery, check the plug for corrosion.

Try unplugging the transducer cable to see if the display still behaves erratically. You wont see depth readings but you should still see the screen going black. If no erratic behavior with transducer unplugged then problem is in the transducer cable or the plug. A common source of failure is at the plug because the added stress of plugging and unplugging cables can cause the socket to twist slightly which can cause a short.

Make sure you have the latest software update.

How to see if your LCX-19C is already using version 1.8.0 software:

1. Press the MENU button twice on your LCX-19C.
2. Select SYSTEM SETUP.
3. Select SOFTWARE INFORMATION.
4. The software version for your unit is located under the line that says "LCX-19C" (ex. "Version 1.8.0").
5. If your version is the same version listed above, there is no need to download the software.

If it is lower than 1.8.0 you can download the update from this link: LCX-19C UPDATE
Copy it onto a blank MMC card and install it in your GPS. The GPS should prompt you on how to install the update.
