Question about Sony VAIO PCG-K35 Notebook

1 Answer

My keyboard has letters that just stopped working, bad news is the letters are part of my password authorization! I bought a new wireless keyboard BUT because the password authorization is the first thing that pops up when I start up the computer I am unable to run the software to install a new keyboard. HELP please!

I would buy a replacement keyboard for it. most of the time you should be able to find one for cheap on ebay. they are fairly easy to replace and only require popping off the plastic trim on the top edge of the keyboard, removing a few screws and the data wire. then connect and screw in the new one and pop the trim back in place.

Keyboard double letter

Likely just a bad keyboard. Good news is that keyboard are really cheap for most laptops.

Viruses can do all kinds of weird things, they usually don't mess with the operation of the keyboard though.

I have a new wireless keyboard and loaded the driver disk and the number pad does not work but the arrow key under 4 and 6 works

Hi,
Glad to be of service. Since you mentioned that you just bought the wireless keyboard. I just want to make sure, does the letters work? If yes, and the numbers are the only one that is not working. Houston we have a problem. Because if the numbers are the only one that is not working. The wireless keyboard that you just bought is busted. You may return it to the store where you bought it.
I hope I answered your question.
Thanks a lot!!

Certain letters/characters will not work.

Maybe: If it is a wireless keyboard....perhaps new batteries...but that is unlikely.  Usually when the letter buttons die in a group like that, the best thing for you is to bite the bullet and buy another keyboard.  Perhaps there was a spill on the keyboard...perhaps that particular group just gave out.  The good news is that keyboards are relatively cheap...and there is nothing quite like the feel of springy, new keys under your fingers.

Microsoft wireless optical desktop 2000 - keyboard and mouse

There are a number of things that may be causing your problem.

The first thing I would check would be the batteries, with these units having a wireless connection if the batteries become weak they will transmit a weaker signal and thus make it harder for the unit to read. Battery life is variable depending on how often you use your keyboard and mouse, and how far away from the transmitter the keyboard and mouse sit.

Also because the units are wireless there may be interference coming from other wireless devices in your household. Some possible guilty devices maybe cordless phones, Wifi adapters, and even some remotes.

Also Have you installed the intellitype and Intellipoint software for your Mouse & Keyboard. If so you can use it to check your battery life/ signal strenth and set you mouse sensitivity and type repeat rate.

On the bottom of your keyboard & Mouse and on the top of the wireless transponder there are reset buttons. Pushing the transponder 1st and then either or both the mouse and keyboards buttons should resysnc them without the need for a reboot.

Hope this helps
Dave

Help please tell me why my keys will not work on my laptop.

Try using an external USB desktop keyboard (or a PS2 keyboard, if you have a PS2 jack on the laptop).

If everything works then, your laptop keyboard is malfunctioning. This is usually due to one of three causes:

1. One key is stuck in the "down" or "depressed" position (collapsed/dented silicone cup beneath, or damaged flex legs under key). Look at the keyboard from the side, to see f any key looks lower than the rest (or higher than the rest) Be careful taking it apart to clean and reassemble.

2. Bad ribbon connector, torn, or merely corroded/oxidized keyboard cable connector. This requires opening the laptop to fix. Usually 2-3 screws under laptop labeled as keyboard, allow it to be pried off. Release the cable LOCK, and remove the thin ribbon cable. Reinsert it 5-6 times to clean off contacts, and LOCK the jack again once you are sure it is all snug. If the ribbon was TORN, you will need a new one. Good luck, not easy to find on old laptops.

3. Worst scenario... someone spilled coke (the worst) or beer/beverage inside the keyboard. This eats up the printed oxide connectors, and this cannot be repaired. you will need a new keyboard assembly.. Use a magnifying glass to look between keys, to see if there is stickey, gooey material there. This would be the bad news indicator for number 3.
