Unscrew the 3 or 4 screws on the outside of the plate that is part of the pull string housing, there are 2 centrifugal pegs that are sticking due to trimmings getting in that area. Inspect, and clean the pegs that fly out when you pull the string. Do not oil (that will only attract more junk later), make sure they are free, and come out when you pull the string. And your problem will be solved.

SOURCE: cannot get my trimmer started.
Tom, it sounds like part of the rope has jumped off of the spool. There should be a small piece of plastic with a screw holding the spool in place. It may have worked itself loose.

Try this # 358.795320 go to sears.com lawn and garden and find partsdirect link (upper right)
it will prompt you to enter search by mod# put in the number above and see if this is what you have,once you are there go down to #62 and this may be the part you are talking about

How do I replace my pull cord on my weed eater TE 475? I have the parts diagram, I need to know where the cord attaches and what the steps are to rewind the pulley and attach the cord.
