Re: Scanner Codes or Freqencies

While looking up local listing will take a little leg work, These links below will give you some great starting points.
Just remember, agencies will change frequencies, Hardware, and radio types from analog, to digital, to trunked.
Also web sites may not have most up to date listings, Id also suggest local amateur radio aka Ham radio clubs. some of the guys there may be able to help you out as well.
Best of luck and SCAN ON! :) Enjoy

It depends on your location. Try this link

You will also need to know if your state and city switched to digital.
If not then it should work fine, but if they did you will need a new scanner because you have an analog scanner. There is a big push to switch over to digital radios in police, firefighter, military because it's more secure to use.

What are the meanings of the police 10 codes?

You use to be able to go to Radio Shack and they would give you a sheet of the codes for free and their meanings. But i don't know if they still do it for free or not.

I need local police and fire frequncies how do i get them free

Try contacting your local law enforcement agency, they will usually be happy enough to send you a list for your county - however there are frequency numbers that are private and not ment to be 'scanned' by us regular folks. Your local newpaper or TV station may have the list on the website. All the other frequency numbers i know of i got out of my book - which btw was well worth the $10 becausee it gave me EVERY agency broadcasting : fire, sheriff, state police troops A-F, courthouse, etc. You can try letting your scanner do the work and have it scan for frequencies and store those that you find and dump the ones you dont like later, but if your going to do it that way let your scanner scan for a week or so - some frequencies dont get used very much. If your town/city has a website the local frequencies should also be listed there. Good Luck

If you mean what is on a particular channel that say the police in your area is on then go to . Type in that complete address and it will bring you to a page where you click on the state you live in and if you want to go by city or county frequecies.

When unit is powered on it just makes a buzzing noise & does nothing else

I'm assuming you have freqencies programmed. If you do you might adjust your squelch key. You are possibily locked in on a dead air frequency transmission.
