Nope....took off the inside strip....and it was a *****...only to find that no screw heads were there. The inner part of the door perimeter is surrounded by what looks like a row of teeth that are welded to the door frame. I can see no way to remove this "frame" and get at the screw heads for the handle.

    Any suggestions?

WOW....I feel like I am diffusing a nuclear bomb!

There are only two screws in the whole door....and they are on the side of the door by the handle. I will give your idea a shot...let you know how it works.

See if there are screws under the door frame as well. I think the door hinge bolts and the screw #9 play a roll in holding part of the door together. Try and use a flat blade between the edge where the #9 srew is and the inner door frame and see if it might pry apart. PLEASE be carefull and not force the issue to hard. I have changed a few and these ideas I am giving you seem to be familiar step I took to seperate the door/

Hi John, Were you able to get the handle on? I just put a handle on yesterday and I found there were plastic clips holding the outer part of the door locked to the metal frame work of the door. I had to pry the clips away from the frame while pulling the frame with the other hand. There wer 2 clips on each four sides.

    Please let me know.

    Thanks You

The thin plastic strip around the inside of the door comes out. You have to be careful as it breaks pretty easily. It is just snapped in place. the handle screws are behind that. Ask me any questions and the model number would be a help. Eric

Hi there,

Use a metal ( not the shiny chrome type ) screw driver with a insulated handle to short across ( touch both at the same time ) the terminals of the high voltage capacitor to discharge it. With the microwave unplugged.
This is a common way to do this....

Need to replace door handle

1. Unplug microwave oven or disconnect power. 2. Open the microwave oven door. 3. Pry the choke cover away from the top door pin, and remove the top pin from the pivot bracket. Lift the door off the bottom bracket, and remove it. 4. Place the oven door front side down on a padded surface. 5. Remove the choke screws from the door frame. 6. Starting at the top right corner, pry the choke cover out with a putty knife, and unsnap it from the choke. Only remove the top, bottom and right sides of the choke cover at this time. You will remove the handle end of the choke cover later. 7. Starting at the top edge of the door near the center and working clockwise, use a putty knife, and pry the latching tabs of the choke out of the door frame slots. Lift the choke as you release the tabs so they do not snap back into the slots. NOTE: When you reach the handle side of door, pull both the choke and the choke cover away from the door frame, and then separate the two components. 8. To remove the door switch actuators from the choke, remove the screw from each actuator. REASSEMBLY NOTE: When you reinstall the door on the oven, insert the top pin into the pivot bracket and press down on the pin until it snaps into place

Handle replacement

The door handle can easily be replaced on most microwave ovens by removing the inner door panel that goes around the perimeter of the glass. The following link explains how to access and replace the door handle:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3696942-microwave_oven_door_handle_replacement

This should be a very simple repair that you can easily perform yourself.

If you have any questions, please post back and let me know. You can refer to this illustration, if you like, to assist you as well:

I hope this helps you.

Need help replacing handle on whirlpool microwave model MH1150XM

Remove two screws on top at front in order to remove plastic front vent grill. Then the door lifts off pin hinges. Lay door flat on surface. Plastic trim snaps off with gentle prying (start at bottom middle and bottom hinge side). Then remove six screws holding notched metal section with door latch. This piece will also snap out (several visible clips holding it around edges). Then remove door handle screws, Replace handle and reverse process to put back together.

How to replace the door handle on a mod. MH 1170XSY-0 mico wave

To access the door handle mounting screws on MOST microwave ovens, you have to remove the inner door panel that goes around the perimeter of the glass. You can use a small screwdriver to carefully pry the plastic up and work your way slowly around the perimiter of the glass. Most microwave ovens also have grooves in the panel that you can insert the screwdriver into. Use care not to pry against the glass. The glass is tempered and also has an RF shield that prevents harmful microwaves from potentially harming the consumer. If you break the glass, you will need to purchase a new door.

The door handle screws are located behind the inner panel. Simply remove the broken handle and install the new one. Re-insert the inner door panel carefully and gradually work your way around the perimeter of the door glass and make sure it snaps back into place.

If you have questions, please let me know. I hope you find this information helpful.
