Hello I have an HP Pavilion dv4000 notebook! I tried to hook it up on my TV via S-video cable and did Fn + F4 combination. I also switched my tv’s channel to a video (Av). When I did Fn + F4, my notebook’s screen went black and blank for couple seconds then nothing changed. If I have to do it through BIOS how can I do it ? Would reducing the resolution and connecting it to a tv (before turning the notebook on) work ? I hooked it up then turned my laptop on but it didn’t work too ? What should I do

With the dv4000, you have the option of using the VGA output (blue connector/port on the side of the laptop), or the S-video output (round connector/port next to the VGA port). Once you have the cable plugged in to the laptop and the TV, press Fn
+ F7to switch from the laptop screen to the external monitor.
there should be a funtion key by ctrl and the start menu button and the f keys ect f1 f2 should show a pic of a touchpad try keeping hold of the fn button and presing that button and yout touchpad should work
Its usually the Fn key (bottom left) and a function key on the top line like F1 to F12 the brightness is the picture of the sun. I couldnt find any specific information on your model but most HP's are the same.
s video is output for the tv and its not controlled whith those buttons that you have to configure in the graphics drivers, but usualy the s video on hp and compaq laptops quit working but you have to configure them in the graphics driver
What you would need is a VGA to RCA converter cable. Something like this. Once hooked up, use your Fn key combination to switch the view from the internal monitor on the laptop to the external monitor, now your TV.
