Re: activity media buttons

This is a software problem I bet. Go through CONTROL PANEL and uninstall the HP MEDIA KEYS (or similar) software and reboot. Then reinstall the latest media key software from the HP web site.

Good luck...

I have an acer laptop that was recently purchased for my birthday three weeks ago. It's been working completely fine until tonight. Now, whenever I go to type the letters "t" "u" or "p", or the numbers "1"...

More information is needed.

Has anything been spilled into the keyboard? Has anyone eaten over or near the keyboard?

Brush between and under the keys with a soft trim paintbrush.

Advise of the results and supply more information.

Would like to know how to activate the mcafee internet security acer, which came with the laptop I purchased a while ago for my boys. Did not realize that they did not activate it within the 15 day window...

Hi There.
If it is too late to activate mcafee a great alternative is to use Avast protection.
Link to Avast:
I have usets Avast for years and it is really good - and it is free !!!

My hp laptop recently started having a blinking volume bar in the middle of the screen, how do i fix this?

Sounds like there is a problem with your media keys above the keyboard. Sometimes draining the capacitors resets the media keys and resolves this issue. Try disconnecting the battery and ac adapter. After both are disconnected, hold down the power button for at least 10 seconds to drain the capacitors inside the computer. Plug it back in and see what you get. You might need to replace the actual media keys (bezel) to resolve this issue.

Cd not coming is running continuously.. button on keyboard not working..! this problem is with studio tray provided..!!!!

I just followed the instructions in the manual I downloaded at

It's much more narly than working in a big tower, but the only really tough part for me was lifting up the front panel just above the keyboard--I accidentally disabled the media control buttons. Apart from that it was pretty straight forward--lots of steps, but each simple.

F2 key does not work

Sounds like time for a new keyboard for your laptop - I'd suggest checking eBay! they have good prices on NEW keyboards most of the time - you can get one for about $10 depending on laptop model.

My laptop keyboard just randomly stops responding. touchpad works but not the keyboard

most laptops have a ribbon cable connection just under the keyboard, you can usually pry the keyboard off GENTLY with a small flat blade, most times there is a couple little slides holding it down, I would check the ribbon cable and make sure it is seated

New lenovo N500 laptop keyboard not working just noise

The N500 has a row of touch sensitive buttons above the keyboard, toward the right side of the computer. If you have accidentally press one of those buttons you may have disabled the keyboard, try pressing one of those buttons to activate the keyboard again.

Good luck.

Acer Laptop keyboard problem

It sounds like you have a problem with your CMOS battery. I had a similar problem with another Notebook recently. The computer does not know its CMOS settings (including the BIOS settings) anymore since the battery is empty or damaged. When you enter the device selection (F12) it saves the information again so it can boot normaly now. I think you should get a new CMOS battery and the problem might be solved. Also the keyboard problem might be fixed with that - i also had keyboard problems with the Laptop i mentioned above when the battery was empty.
