On your Bissell 6850 you need to turn your vacuum over and on the front there is a brush with a cover. Remove the six screws, take the cover off and simply pull up on the brush, the belt is attached to the brush and will come off easily. Put back together in opposite order.

That would mean that either the belt has come off or broken. So it is time for new belt.

Change belt on model 6850 bissell

Turn your vacuum over and remove 6 screws holding down the cover plate which has the roller brush under it. Remove cover plate and pull up on brush. Belt will come off with the brush. Put back together in reverse order with new belt.

Brush belt is very weak.

Brush Belt broken or disconnected. Very weak belt. Colossal engineering mistake by Bissell. Belt itself and its components are under way to much stress for the size they developed to perform their task. For Quality Control to let such an obvious blunder pass can only mean that it was intentional for reasons, Im sure, beneficial to Bissell and costly for the consumer. No telling how many people buy another entire machine when this rubberband of a belt breaks like it was intended. Bissell is not a consideration of myself or anyone I can enlighten.
