Is ther any kind of knocking or tapping noise comming from the cylinderhead? If not, you should be getting adequate oil being pumped up into there. So I would negate a bad oilpump and guess your pressure sending unit is faulty. Hope this helps.

IT CAN BE ANY OF THE ABOVE AND ALSO A DEFECTUVE OIL PRESSURE SENDER ON THE ENGINE, HAVE THE OIL PRESS TESTED WITH A MECHANICAL TEST GAUGE BY A SHOP, IF IT IS OK REPLACE THE SENDER FOR THE OIL PRESS LIGHT.

On dodge this issue is usually caused by oil leaking into oil pressure sending unit wiring plug from above. Lot of times unplug and clean with brake cleaner and fix oil leak

95 Dodge Neon

common problem for dodge 4 cylinders...
never lower the oil level unless its real high on the dipstick..
you have the replace the spark plug guide seal.... it seals it from oil in the valve cover going into the spark plug guide and killing the spark... yes oil goes past the threads on the plug....

just did the valve cover on my 94 jaguar... has the same setup valve cover design

I have a 2003 dodge neon and everytime I stop at a red light my oil light comes on but as soon as I take off it goes off. Oil has changed a month ago, it's full and still clean. What could cause t

Your motor is getting Tired or your Oil Pump is going bad.

Dodge has a problem with their motors and their Oil Passages get GUNKED really bad. This is what you should do,...

A. Get 1.5 Quarts of Diesel Fuel and drive to where you have your Oil changed

B. Add the Diesel Fuel to the Oil and let it IDLE (don't Drive the car under operating conditions). Let it Idle for 15-20 minutes and then have your Oil Changed

C. Have them use 20W-50 Oil, this is going to raise your oil Pressure and the light will not come on anymore.

Reason... Metal parts are wearing and that is oil gets into the system to lube the bearings. Pump Screen may be clogged and this will dissolve the Carbon Build up.

Good :Luck

I have a 2004 dodge neon and the oil light dings at random.

Might be worth checking your oil level first. If that's correct, the previous answer sounds accurate.

Can the Dodge dealer check the oil pump pressure? Engine is pecking at idle and is using oil, not smoking. Oil light is not coming on. Any ideas?

Check the oil level, this sounds like an overfill or the wrong weight oil used. It could even be a clogged oil filter, it could even be double staked oil filter "O" rings, one old oil gasket stuck to the engine, then the new filter installed over it.

If you just had the engine oil changed take it back and have them check it, if you did it yourself check it again.

I'm not sure about "pecking" ? taping?

Make sure you have oil, the right oil and not overfilled oil.

Other then that it could be an engine issue that would be hard to check over the net.

Good luck, hope this helps.

2003 Dodge Neon Check Oil light wont go off. Car has oil-full, and just put in new Sensor.

Do you mean the oil level sensor was replaced, or do you mean the oil pressure sending unit was replaced?
If it was the oil pressure sensor was replaced, then I would look into an oil pump going bad, not supplying enough pressure to the oil pressure sensor. This can be tested by putting an oil pressure gauge into where the oil pressure sensor normally goes, bypassing the circuitry that leads to the dash light for the oil pressure.

If it was the oil level sensor, then check for bad wiring.

How do i change the oil on my 2001 dodge neon?

Raise the vehicle off the ground and support with jack stands(both front wheels off the ground), chock the wheels, buy and oil change drain pan and a oil filter strap wrench for that filter application(parts store will supply the proper wrench), have available a set of box wrenches 1/2"-3/4".
Purchase the proper replacement oil filter, and oil, be careful not to overfill the oil check the level after filling three quarts in crankcase, also only hand tighten the oil filter, and be sure the drain pan bolt has a gasket on it and it is tightened securely.

Oil light is on

May be bad oil pressure sending unit. Best way to check is to connect a mechanical oil pressure guage to engine and check pressures when engine is warm. Should be no lower than 40 psi at idle when warm, no higher than 70 psi at 2000 rpm.
