Lens won't retract

My battery died while I was takin a picture and the lens was still out. I changed the batteries and the lens still won't retract and the camra keeps shutting off. It sounds like the lens is stuck but I'm not sure. I have also tried several new batteries to make sure that wasn't the problem.

Kodak Camera DX 6490 is frozen in the open position and will not respond...open

Does not look good at all. Try this:
remove the battery. Charge the battery, or place another charged battery. Close the battery cover and switch the camera on.
I hope it now will retract the lens.
Most of the time you only can manage to freeze a camera with the lens in that position, when you remove the battery. That is unwise, because the camera does not know in what position the lens is, when you place the battery and switch on.
If the camera was switched out correctly and it could not retract the lens, it could be there is a mechanical problem in the lens barrel, or the motor (steering) is defect.
Sometimes camera's just die too.
I wide you luck while reviving your camera.

How do you fix a stuck lens that will not retract when camera is turned off?

Hello, Remove batteries from camera, try pushing the lens back GENTLY with the palm of your hand, Notice I said "GENTLY" or you will cause more damage than good. If this won't work than take it for service / repair.

Best Regards, Russell

Kodak easy share z612 will not turn on to take a picture

When the battery dies, usually the camera will retract the lens if possible. If the battery is so dead the lens can not retract, I would recommend trying to charge or change the battery. Or try to turn the camera on, and then manually shutting it off if you can.
