Problem for Apple iPod nano White MP3 Player

The ipod will light up if you toggle the hold button a few times or press the on
button, but all i get is a gray screen with slight vertical lines -- my
computer recognizes it and will even say it has synced. I did the
restore process from itunes and also did the 5 step process that apple
suggests with no success -- could the lcd just be permanently damaged
or just failed? i think i have dropped it just once and that was on
soft carpet. It started doing this intermittently and then just
wouldn't give the normal screen back at all now. Thanks!
