Question about Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router

Linksys Wireless WRT54G Router Won't Connect

I just moved into a new house and I'm trying to set-up my wireless internet. I have my DSL connection up and running. Everything works when I have the ethernet from the modem directly connected to the laptop. But when I tried (like 3-4 times) to connect the router and configure it to ge the wireless to work it just won't work. I had everything physically connected properly, yellow ethernet cable from modem plugged into the "internet" port in the router and the blue cable plugged into port "1" on the router to the laptop. I went to 192.168.1.1 and I got the linksys page, but couldn't get any internet connection. I even went to the linksys website for the support articles and followed the instructions to change the IP address to 192.168.2.1 and to do an ipconfig/release in the command prompt (I'm using vista). I followed all the instructions on the linksys site to the letter and I still can't get it to work. I went to the "status" page on the 192.168.2.1 site and hit connect and it won't connect. I hope all that makes sense as to what I did So as you can see I'm a little tech savy and not a complete idiot, but I now feel like one because I can't get it to work. Before I call someone expensive to help me fix it I was hoping someone on here would please help me.

Thanks!

I'll try switching the cables and see if that works. (I'll have to try it later in the afternoon I have other things I need to get to first) But also I don't have the "DHCP Release" or the "DHCP Renew" buttons on the status screen.

Here's something you can do.
First, power off the modem and the linksys.  Then swap the yellow cable with the blue cable (this time, connect yellow cable to port 2 of Linksys)
Now, turn on the Modem first... wait about 1 minute, then turn on the Linksys.
1. Log into the router and go to "Status" tab.
2. You should see something called Internet and under it Configuration type.  If all you see is 0.0.0.0 without a gateway address, it didn't work
3. You can also see 2 buttons at the bottom of the screen.  Click on "DHCP Release", then "DHCP renew"
4. look at the configuration type and see if it is no longer 0.0.0.0 Then try connecting to the internet to a website you have not visited (do not try the same websites as before when you initially tested).

Before we configure router with PS3, we need first to make sure router is already configure to work with DSL modem. In Setting-Up a Linksys Router Using DSL Internet Service just click this link for reference.

DSL line disconnects on WRT54GS only

Try to change the LAN IP address of your router to 192.168.2.1 by accessing the router's Setup page. You also need to set your Westell modem to "full-bridge mode". You need to ask assistance from your ISP to bridge the modem. After that, set-up the Linksys router to PPPoE then power cycle it.

Need to add Linksys WRT54G-TM wireless router with Linksys SPA 2102 phone adapter

your SPA2102-R seems to have one ethernet connection and one internet connection.
your WRT54G-TM seems to have one internet connection and 4 ethernet connections.

What you are trying to achive is; plug a ethernet cable into the ethernet connection on your SPA2102-R then plug the other end into the internet port of the WRT54G-TM

hope this helps, I have assumed that you intend to use a DSL broadband supplier not ADSL.

if you are changing service from DSL to ADSL then your WRT54G-TM needs to be first in line configured and working. then plug the internet port from the SPA2102-R into any of the WRT54G-TM ethernet ports.
