I have a toshiba equium l40 series. i also have a pc and i linked them both up with the usb cables and installed aol onto it, but it wont pick up the wireless signal it says it isnt available.

OpenControl Panel, Power settings, Advanced Power settings, change SLEEP to Never, Hibernate to never. Shut down and unplug, if you use mostly on AC, remove battery, your laptop when not in use. It will last longer, if there is a power surge not be damaged, and a reboot every day resets the computer.
Update the drivers and check, also try and use a lens cleaner on the drive and if the DVD does not read then the drive is faulty and must be replaced.Finally you can check this on another PC to confirm.
you can get the drivers from the above link, and as for the mute, you should have a speaker icon on the bottom right corner of your screen where you can check if its on mute, if you don't have a speaker icon its a different problem, possibly the drivers are not installed.
I Have satellite L40-18W-PSL4CE laptop . I installed XP . i got all drivers except sound driver. the last sound driver was running on vista is (Realtek High Definition Audio System Software Ver:R1.72) on toshiba site they said this driver soppurt vista & xp but i got nothing after installing the driver. pls help me with greatfull.
