To the two previous posters. I have exact same issue. Flat scans are beautiful, but scans via the ADF have started getting lines. Obviously, this is a dust particle. But its not on the top side of the smaller ADF glass. Its underneath.
You can prove this by taking a flashlight and shining at various angles while getting closer to this ADF glass. Mine has a fine light coating of tiny dust with two or three larger particles. And it is these larger particles which appear to be causing the lines in the scans. Worse, I can see more fine dust (presumably paper dust) on the black plastic under the glass where the wheels and belts are.
I have yet to figure out how how to get INSIDE this part so I can get underneath to clean the glass.
IMHO, I think Canon designed this as a sealed unit, to avoid dust, but on my unit, only the two ends of the ADF glass are glued down. Along the longest edge, there is no sealant. So that appears to be the point of entry for the finer dust.
Important
The inner side of the Document Cover (white sheet) (C) is easily damaged, so wipe it gently.
If the glass of the ADF (A)
is stained with ink, correction fluid, or the like, black streaks may
appear on the printed paper when the document is loaded in the ADF. With
a clean, soft, lint-free cloth, wipe the glass of the ADF.
With a clean, soft, lint-free cloth, wipe the Platen Glass (D), the inner side of the Document Cover (white sheet) (C), the glass of the ADF (A), and the inner side of the ADF (white area) (B) gently. Make sure not to leave any residue, especially on the Platen Glass.
Cleaning the ADF
Caution
Be sure to turn off the power and disconnect the power cord before cleaning the machine.
1. Open the Document Tray.
2. Open the Feeder Cover.
3. With a soft, clean, lint-free and dry cloth, wipe off any paper dust from the inside of the Feeder Cover (A).
4. After wiping, close the Feeder Cover by pushing it until it clicks into place.
5. Close the Document Tray.
6. Reconnect the power cord then turn on the machine.

Yes, its still under warranty. What a pain!
I have temporarily resolved it by slipping a curled piece of paper in the gap along the long side of the ADF glass where it is not sealed. it curls upward and basically I am able to pull it back and forth such that the edge rubs on the underside of the glass and "sweeps" the dust off the glass. This has taken care of the "lines" issue when scanning via ADF. (for now)
Except for this one tiny flaw (not sealing that long edge, which lets dust in). This is an unbelievable scanner. I have put thousands of pages through the ADF. I don't know if the printer is any good as I've only printed two pages since I got it in December.
I guess I'll start on the warranty return process.
Thanks
