Hello!! Yes there is a possibility that the lamp might be defective. Bulbs don't usually blow up, the life spand of your bulb is going to depend of you, of how much the tv's on. The bulbs that go out most of the time are the generic ones, I recommend that if you buy one, get a philips they're pretty good bulbs and they give you between 6-8 thousand hours, i've bought some bulbs from discountdashmerchantdotcom they have pretty reasonable rates and also a six month warranty, and omg the service they offer is great. try contacting them.
