I think it is the wireless card I am using in harmony with a slow connection and my impatience that make it seem worse then it is. I installed Speed It Up III ! Extreme and it shows Total Ram 1023 MB Free RAM 620 MB Total Virtual RAM 2014 MB.

That memory amount does not sound correct - it might be the free memory count. What does it say when you go to CONTROL PANEL -> SYSTEM? If it has a low memory count, try this.

When the machine reboots, press the delete key or F10 key to enter the BIOS and have a look at how much memory the BIOS is reporting. If it seems incorrect, you may have mismatched memory (so only one of two chips is working), or one of the chips may have become unseated in its bay. Turn the machine over and unscrew the memory bay door and reseat the chip(s) if necessary. If you reseat them and the memory reported is still incorrect, you might have faulty memory. Actually, faulty memory chips have become extremely rare.

As a last resort download SISOFT SANDA LITE for free on the web (or from download.com) and then run its memory test tools. Laptop memory is very cheap right now, so you might consider replacing if it has become faulty.

Good luck...

So in task manager you see system processes that are using more memory than they should? It's not unusual for some of the basic processes to use 100MB of memory, or more. Example, under Windows XP, loading www.cnn.com in one iExplore window and www.amazon.com in another iExplore window will use just over 100MB of memory Which is actually a lot, but isn't unusual. Is yours using more than that? I suggest downloading a tool like Sisoft Sandra Lite (free) and let it run a full diagnostic on your system if you are worried about unusual memory usage. You could also have a virus doing strange things with the OS; make sure you have anti-virus protection installed and updated.

    Good luck...

How much memory can I ad to a SR1802HM computer and do I need an external hard drive to handle more memory?

Maximum allowed 4 GB* (4 x 1 GB) requires the replacement of the installed 256 MB DIMMs

*Actual available memory may be less Maximum allowed 4 GB* (4 x 1 GB) requires the replacement of the installed 256 MB DIMMs

*Actual available memory may be lessThere will be 4 slots for the memory, you can use 4 memory cards of 1 GB each meaning thereby u can use 4 GB maximum.

Maxing memory speed, GB or MHz more important?

I don't think a difference of 133MHz of memory speed will make a difference in your gaming performance either way. Also, you won't be able to use more than 3.5GB of memory if you don't have a 64-bit operating system. Finally, it'll be a rare person who actually notices a difference in using 8GB vs 4GB of RAM. So, in conclusion, just buy 4GB of 800MHz RAM and spend your money and your time on a good graphics card, if gaming performance is your main concern. Have a compaq presario sr2170nx....installed 1 gb memory but not showing up. swapped the memory sticks positions and restarted but still wont show up.

If you do not get the right memory for your computer it will not work. the memory you need is listed in the table below. And pay attention to the max amount of ram. Your system can only hold 2 gig and it comes with one gig installed

Component Attributes Memory Installed 1 GB Maximum allowed 2 GB (2 x 1 GB) Speed supported PC2-4200 MB/sec Type 240 pin, DDR2 SDRAM

Toshiba satellite a100,wa-1 memory upgrade

Hi,

Take out all the memory cards and wipe the gold part of the memory modules.

Then insert the two 512 modules & check the memory.

If it shows the correct readings, then the two modules are detected.

Then insert the 1 gb & other one 512 module.

If it shows the correct readings, then the two modules are detected.

Then use the other one gb with the same 512 & check if it shows the correct readings.

Then the two 2 gb modules are fine.

Now insert the two 1 gb modules & check now.

There are ECC type & non-ECC type memory modules are available, chck which one your computer supports & which type you have.

If it shows the correct readings, then the two modules are detected and fine.

Then you can also swap the slot and check if any memory module is not detectd correctly.

Some have four slots & i dont know how many slots your laptop have.

Good Luck.
