Re: Memory Useage Concern

That memory amount does not sound correct - it might be the free memory count. What does it say when you go to CONTROL PANEL -> SYSTEM? If it has a low memory count, try this.

When the machine reboots, press the delete key or F10 key to enter the BIOS and have a look at how much memory the BIOS is reporting. If it seems incorrect, you may have mismatched memory (so only one of two chips is working), or one of the chips may have become unseated in its bay. Turn the machine over and unscrew the memory bay door and reseat the chip(s) if necessary. If you reseat them and the memory reported is still incorrect, you might have faulty memory. Actually, faulty memory chips have become extremely rare.

As a last resort download SISOFT SANDA LITE for free on the web (or from and then run its memory test tools. Laptop memory is very cheap right now, so you might consider replacing if it has become faulty.

Good luck...

Hi, I need some instructions on how to install 2x Dell SNPTX760C/2G Memory, Module Upgrades. My Laptop is a Dell Latitude D630 Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks Rob

your system can actually support 4 GB of memory. you can refer to the online user manual for reference on how you can remove the existing memory modules to install the new ones. You can access the manual at this link:

NOTE: it may also be a good idea to go to, click the Downloads/Drivers link, enter your Service Tag, then view the updated BIOS. If it applies to you including the fixes and specially if it says Urgent or Recommended, you may want to download and install it.

also, note that if you use 4GB of memory on a Windows OS 32-bit edition, even if BIOS shows the correct amount of memory, the operating system may reported more than 2 GB up to about more than 3GB but less then 4 GB . This is a limitation on the architecture of the operating system and not really a problem since portion of the memory is being assigned to other components that uses it like the onboard video controller.

I have a Toshiba Satellite 1905-S301 that has 512mb of DDR memory currently. I have a stick of 128 that I was going to throw in there to boost performance but when I opened the compartment the there was...

There are 2 types of memory, one for laptops and one for pc.

Your additional stick seems to be for pc from what your saying.

Additional thoughts:
I'm sure you can buy sticks for laptops at walmart or whereever you bought ur laptop. Just make sure it is the same speed type. Example: yours is 512mb ddr PC 5200, you will need to find PC5200, the 512mb and up you shouldnt have to worry about. So do your research before you upgrade or you will burn your laptop.

Acer 5050 5430 not reading the correct aomut of memory

Windows 32-bit operating systems cannot physically see 4 GB of memory. The most you can see is 3 GB. And, assuming you have onboard video, 1/2 GB is going for video memory, thereby showing you only have 2.5. The only way to solve this is to install either Windows XP or Vista 64-bit operating system to fully utilize your 4 GB of memory.

Thanks and please take a moment to rate as fixya.

Toshiba satellite a100,wa-1 memory upgrade

Take out all the memory cards and wipe the gold part of the memory modules.

Then insert the two 512 modules & check the memory.

If it shows the correct readings, then the two modules are detected.

Then insert the 1 gb & other one 512 module.

If it shows the correct readings, then the two modules are detected.

Then use the other one gb with the same 512 & check if it shows the correct readings.

Then the two 2 gb modules are fine.

Now insert the two 1 gb modules & check now.

There are ECC type & non-ECC type memory modules are available, chck which one your computer supports & which type you have.

If it shows the correct readings, then the two modules are detected and fine.

Then you can also swap the slot and check if any memory module is not detectd correctly.

Some have four slots & i dont know how many slots your laptop have.

Good Luck.
