Question about Plumbing

Sulfur smell from the Delta faucet sprayer. Every morning, or when we have not used the spray for a while, there is a hydrogen sulfide smell that comes when we use the spray. We have tried starting flow via the hose only with the sprayer removed. The smell comes from the hose or faucet mechanism. We do not experience odor from the water out the top of the faucet. What could be the problem?

No, there is no water softener in the system. I have had water softeners before, but at another house.

The previous kitchen faucet was Peerless, I think. We replaced it with a newer unit. This unit is otherwise just like the one removed.

When the flow is started through the sprayer only, there is this sulfur smell until it has flushed. I have opened the top valve mechanism, but have not lifted out the diverter valve. I see no items that are corroding or which could be a source for sulfur-like smell.

I have removed the spray head and flowed water via the hose to see if there was maybe something in the hose. I find nothing.

The only guess might be that the hose itself is exuding some smelly material. One would think that if that were so, eventually the source would run out and quit giving off the odor.

    Big mystery!

Your incoming water from the well is contamiated. A delta faucet will combine oxygen with the water and make the sulfer smell come out. It could also be iron bacteria causing the smell. Look in the back of your toilet tank and see if your have reddish or black stringy algae looking stuff growing in there. If you do, you have iron bacteria and it will smell.

Our Maytag washer emit a rotten egg smell and the wet clothes also come out with this smell. What is causing this and how do we fix this issue?

Sounds like a sulfur-eating bacteria, you're smelling hydrogen sulfide. Are you on city water or do you have a well? Sulfur-eating bacteria can live in a well (as can iron-eating bacteria) and it might find a happy home in a washing machine too.

Since they live in an acidic environment (the hydrogen sulfide, dissolved in water, makes an acid) I would try a caustic first- bleach would be a good first bet.

If you have a well and the bacteria came from it then it'll come back. Consult with a local well drilling operation, they can tell you if you have bacteria in your well and how to deal with it in a locally acceptable fashion.

Just rented a home in the country the water smells like rotten eggs

Hydrogen Sulfide Gas can occur in wells, and gives the water a characteristic "rotten egg" taste or odor.

  • Install an activated carbon filter. This option is only effective for low hydrogen sulfide levels, The gas is trapped by the carbon filter is saturated.
  • Install an oxidizing filter, such as a "manganese greensand" filter. Manganese greensand filters are often used to treat iron problems in water. The device consists of manganese greensand media, which is sand coated with manganese dioxide. The hydrogen sulfide gas in the water is changed to tiny particles of sulfur as it passes through the filter. The filter must be periodically regenerated, using potassium permanganate, before the capacity of the greensand is exhausted.
  • Install an oxidation-filtration system. These systems utilize a chemical feed pump to inject an oxidizing chemical, such as chlorine, into the water supply line prior to a storage or mixing tank. When sufficient contact time is allowed, the oxidizing chemical changes the hydrogen sulfide to sulfur, which is then removed by a particulate filter, such as a manganese greensand filter.

    Delta side spray replacement

Delta makes sprayers to match the faucet design. Functionally they're about all the same. GO to theirr web site: http://www.deltafaucet.com/customersupport/index.html
If you don't know your model number you can use their wizzard and identify your faucet model. Then go to the parts section. One difference on the number you listed is I believe on comes with the mounting fitting that attaches to the sink. Some don't have it if they go through the faucet base itself.
Delta faucets have lifetime guarantee, I'm not sure if that includes the sprayer. (I doubt it)

Delta Faucet (Series 2467) Sprayer doesn't work

Yes, the diverter assembly is probably corroded or clogged shut. Garunteed its the problem on a 10 year old delta kitchn faucet. The diverter routes water from the spout to the sprayer when the sprayer is triggered.

I have a 2002 Chevy Tracker with a sulfur smell. It passed the e test and has no engine codes. It is worse climbing hills but has no power loss.

Hydrogen sulfide in the exhaust, which is produced by trace amounts of sulfur in gasoline. It's supposed to be converted to sulfur dioxide in your catalytic converter.

This may be indicative of a fuel-injection problem, and can be cured by a sharp mechanic.

But often it means a failed catalytic converter.

Delta kitchen faucet mixed spray...diverter problem???

No a pull out sprayer problem is different.

First try this. Pull out the sprayer and remove from hose by turning nut that connects sprayer to hose. If you can get someone to help you it would be nice since the hose can go down into the faucet and might be trouble to retrieve. Look in the connection on the sprayer where the hose connects and look at the screen. If the screen is plugged or dirty clean and reinsert. If you can't clean it replace it. If this isn't working go to the next suggestion below.

In the spray head of the faucet there is a build up of deposits from use and or water hardness. Here is the link to the Delta site.

    Delta Faucets

If you find you faucet model order a new spray head. Once these go bad they usually need replacing.
