In looking for the thermal fuse, I saw that the wire from the hi-limit thermostat to the operating thermostat was burned through. The hi-limit thermostat is shot and the wire needs to be replaced too. Is it likely any other parts are bad? The thermal fuse, the operating thermostat?

Kenmore dryer won't start

If thermal fuse is bad, most dryers will not run. If it is bad, dryer has overheated for some reason. Check venting to be sure it is clear and be sure heating element has not grounded out.

gas or electric? gas units have coils that activate the gas valve, if thats your concern. If it's electric, one of several possibilities exists. Either it;s the heating element, or you have a fused service disconnect box that's blown one of the fuses, or a high limit thermostat is broken. You can check all these things with continuity tester and replace whichever is bad.

Dryer belt replacement

To replace the belt, you have to take the front off the dryer and lift out the drum. With the new belt, place it around the drum and with the drum in place put the excess belt through the idler pulley or bracket (depending on your model), then around the motor pulley. You push the bracket or idler arm toward the motor to get the "loop" of the belt around the pulley on the motor. Hope this helps! Paul Hoffmanns
