This is a classic glitch. This is most likely caused by your Wii being old/ out of date, because sometimes when video games become really old and out of date, they start glitching and weird things happen. This is a perfect example. You may not be able to fix this problem, but hey, nothing's impossible. Except a lot of things...
Check to make sure the sensor bar is securely plugged in. My sensor bar quit working because the wire got damaged and I just went and bought a wireless one and rechargeable batteries. Mostly the sensor bar is only used for the menu and any games that have target shooting like billiards. You can bowl, play baseball, tennis, and golf without it on Wii Sports. I hardly ever use my sensor bar since discovering that it isn't used as much as I thought. We just turn it on load the game and shut it off and everything works perfectly on most games.
The reason for this is that the "eye" in your Wii to read the disc is too dusty to read the disc, as it is a 2 layered disc. Call up Nintendo and ask them for help, they will tell you what to do and they will clean out your Wii for free.
If Wii gives Disc Read Error, first step you need to check is to try
another disc or clean the exisitng disc. This will confirm that problem
is with either Wii or Disc. If the console itself is giving disc read
error then it needs to be repaired. You may check out DIY Wii Fix Guide,
that will show step by step information to fix the problem yourself. It
also gives information on fixing many Wii Related Problems, so its a

The Wii Remote Controller should be used between 3 to 10 feet from the TV.
Make sure no objects are blocking the signals between the Sensor Bar,
the Wii console, and the Wii Remote.

sunlight, fireplaces, and stoves.
Radio frequency interference may cause the Wii Remote to work erratically.

phones, wireless computer keyboards or mice, or other similar devices, and move or turn them off.
@ Slivic22 Some games does not use Sensor Bar pointing because they play with motion/accelerometer only. After you select the number of sets on Wii Sports Tennis, there is no Sensor Bar pointing except for Pause menu. That's because you Swing the remote like a racket.
