You have carburetor problems. Chances are the diaphragm needs to be changed and the carb. needs a good cleaning. If you need tips on carb. cleaning, let me know.

How to replace fuel tank filler tube?

Brother John, you've removed as much as you can for access to the filler. Remove the hose clamps/bands that secure the fill tube and vent tube and then remove the screws around the gas cap that secure the fill tube to the body. With the gas cap off, go below and pull the hose and filler neck down and work the hoses lose with a pair of channel lock pliers and sticking a screwdriver between the metal tube and hose to break the seal. Put on the new filler neck and stick it back up in the body and put the screws back in. THEN put the hose clamps back up and tighten them, put the gas cap back on and your done.

How to remove gas tank from toro 20016

Your Toro model 20016 came equipped with a Tecumseh engine. To remove the fuel tank, follow these steps:

1. Remove the fuel hose from the tank and drain any remaining gasoline into a container. If the gasoline is still good (fresh, clear) then save and reuse it. If the gas is not good (contaminated with water, old) then dispose of the fuel properly.

2.. Remove the upper red plastic engine cover. There are 4 screws with 1/4" hex heads holding the cover on. You will have to temporarily remove the oil cap to allow clearance.

3. The tank is held on with 2 screws and 2 clips. The screws will be obvious and on top. (some models the screws are the same as the cover screws). If necessary, remove the 2 screws. Tilt the tank away from the engine and pull upward. This will release the clips and allow the tank to be removed.

4. Reinstall in the reverse order.

Good luck!

Do I need a special flywheel puller for a 2007 Tecumseh 6.5 hp engine. I need to remove flywheei to reconnecr dround wire.

Hi Pat--
You don't always need a puller, but your chances of breaking things are greatly reduced if you do have one. If you're going to try to remove that flywheel without a puller, here's what usually gets me good results:
1) Remove cowls and panels as necessary until the flywheel is exposed.
2) Find 2 or 3 wooden stakes that will fit securely beneath the the flywheel. Square pieces about twelve inches long are best.
3) With the wood blocks underneath the flywheel, GENTLY pry up and down between the flywheel and the block evenly all the way around the wheel. You may have to tap the top of the flywheel with a rubber mallet.
Occassionally, some penetrating oil sprayed onto the flywheel's keyway will help make the separation. The real trick to doing this is to pry beneath the flywheel evenly all the way around it. Be patient and take your time. If in doubt, get any gear or wheel puller and, after tightening to GENTLE pressure, give the flywheel a few taps at its center with a rubber mallet. It should pop off.
Hope this helps.

My 3 year old 22 inch walk behind mower will not start, I replaced the spark plug, there is no spark when I pull the hand start

Replace the flywheel key by removing the rewind housing, the flywheel nut and then remove the flywheel by using a small engine universal puller (cheap) and install a new key.

My toro 20016 self propel is only turning the right wheel

Remove the left wheel and check the gears inside the wheel and the drive sheft. They might be worn or sheared and need renewing or maybe they just need oiling. Spray them with WD 40.

Toro sprewing oil

The filler spout tube may have pulled out of its seat push and twist to reinsert it down. if the oil is over filled you must drain some out to return it to its correct oil level, if it did pull out of its seat the small bolt holding the filler tube in place may have loosened up and fallen off it must be replaced if this happened.

You will need to replace an aluminum "key" in the flywheel. Whenever you hit something, the key is designed to shear so you don't break something major.

Bolt comes loose and rip cord is yanked from hand

  1. block off the blade and driver assembly with a 2x4 to keep it from moving
  2. remove the flywheel nut (regular hand force should be sufficient)
  3. tap the 3 holes on the flywheel (if they aren't already threaded) using 1/4inch 20national tap set
  4. remove the flywheel using a flywheel puller -- a harmonic balancer puller which matches the tecumseh bolt pattern on the flywheel also works using 3 1/4inch thread (20national, 2inch long) bolts with washers
  5. NOTE: (if the blade was removed/reinstalled, tighten the blade to manufacturer's spec of 60lbs) before installing the new flywheel key
  6. remove the sheared flywheel key
  7. clean up the flywheel (wipe off all the dirt and grease)
  8. install the new flywheel key (part 611004 for toro 20016)
  9. install the flywheel (pull the bail brake handle to get the ball-brake inside the flywheel)
  10. tighten the flywheel nut to manufacturer's spec of 37.5lbs
  11. prime the gas bulb, give it a pull and mow away

How to change the pull string on a toro 22 inch recycler

To take the housing off, you may need to remove the carb choke houseing "becasue of a hard to reach bolt. A small oil filler tube screw and then a couple screws on the top. I dont know if you broke the rope or of the assemble inside is broke, but they make a kit for new springs and wings that is fairly simple to replace if thats the latter of the two.

I would discourage the average handy person from undoing the screw on the plastic reel inside under the cover and pulling up, as it is the metal band that creates the recoil tension and those are challenging still 15 years later. ;)
