Hello. I can help. Get back if this response does not set you on the right course and tell me whether your dryer is gas or electric.
Begin by unplugging and then pull the dryer out and disconnect the vent from the back of the dryer. I suspect that you will find a partial blockage in the rear of the dryer itself or in the vent pipe. Check the entire vent all the way to outdoors.
If you find anything get back and let me know. I will hang in there with you on this problem.

The dryer is making a knocking sound when running. The sound has increased lately. What may be the cause of the noise?

Hello there and thank you for choosing fixya
If your dryer is noisy, check these:
Rollers Many dryers use rollers or wheels to support the clothes drum. When these rollers are worn, they can be noisy. You should replace the whole set of rollers at the same time. Idler pulley Dryers have a tension or idler pulley that keeps tension on the main drive belt. When it's worn, it can be noisy. When that happens, don't lubricate it. Just replace it. Glides Many dryers use nylon or plastic glides at the front of the clothes drum for support. When these are worn, they can be noisy. When that happens, replace them. Rear drum bearing Some dryers support the clothes drum in the rear with a center spindle instead of rollers. The spindle may be a ball-and-socket type support or a shaft through a sleeve. When the components are worn, they may squeak, squeal, or rub. You can't repair them. Just replace them when they're worn. Blower wheel Your dryer's blower wheel pulls air over the heat source, through the clothes drum, and past the thermostats, then pushes it out the exhaust duct. The blower wheel, which is usually plastic, may wear out over time. But if it's noisy, it may simply be clogged with lint. Clean the blower and test to see if the dryer is still noisy. If it is, you probably need to repla

Roper gas dryer makes a noise to try to turn on and start buy does not start or tumble.

several things can cause this to happen;

1.the door switch could be faulty. usually right behind where the door closes. can be in the form of a button or a magnet. if it has failed, dryer will not "go"

2.thermal fuse blown- usually happens if the dryer overheats. it's usually located in the exhaust duct. if this is ever the case, usually means that the dryer is all clogged up, and that would need to be addressed as well.

3.could be the belt that turns the drum. if it's broken or severely worn, it will need to be replaced along with the idler pulley. it usually wears out at about the same time. it's the little circular pulley next to the motor with the belt looped around it.

4. if the motor hums when the start button is pressed, motor may be burned out.

you can check for obstructions in the blower fan housing, and rotate the shaft manually on the motor. if it's stiff, will need to be replaced.

To check the motor, you can remove the belt and try to run the motor with the belt removed, if it rotates freely, then the problem is with the idler pulley or the drum itself.
you can also try to rotate the drum by hand, if it's difficult to move, correct any problem with the rollers or pulley.

I hope you found this helpful. It's a lot harder to explain in text than to be there looking at it.

thanks,
mike

Very loud squeaking noise - like a noisy loose fan belt on a car.

The dryer needs to be rebuilt, new drum belt and drum rollers to cure this problem.

Our dryer has a metal on metal sound when the drum turns. just started making the noise...one load it was fine, the next, this awful sound

It could be that the felt seal that runs around the end of the tub is worn out or a bearing. Also it could be that some change has gotten between the drum and frame. I've had this to happen to me several times. Just dont know how it gets between the drum and frame, but when I took it apart I found money in there

I turn the dryer on and the drum will not turn.

It sounds like the belt that turns the drum is loose or worn out and needs to be replaced. Another problem is that the motor is on the way out. Check the belt first.

Extremely low drum heat but setting is on HIGH.

Electric (Kenmore - 60931) dryer takes forever (several cycles) lately to dry clothes set on high heat (actual heat in tub feels low though). There are no obstructions in the venting and the 240 volt connection is fine. The timer rotates the dial (timer motor working). Help!!!

There are several possibilities. Your dryer drum may be off track with the rear drum support rollers. There is a groove that runs along the circumference of the drum that the rollers are supposed to ride it. Or, you may have roller that is binding up and not rolling freely. Lint can accumulate on them and causes them to stick. If you haven't cleaned the dryer interior lately, or lubricated the rollers, it may be time to do so. You could also have a rear drum seal that is worn and may be causing the drum not to stay seated properly. Please let me know if you have checked any of these possibilites. I can provide you instructions on how to replace any parts, if necessary.

An obstruction in the water-inlet valve may mean that it's no longer able to shut off You can easily open the valve and clean it (from scale or other dirt). Be aware you should disconnect the power cable from machine before doing it !!!! Good luck !
