Had recent issue with engine overheating. Coolant dropped about 2 quarts. No sign of leak now. Verified radiator is not blocked internally or externally. Engine fan is working and does not appear to be slipping. Frequently when AC is full on and vented for full return air, the discharge air sometimes goes from cold to very hot. Very hot, regardless of engine temperature indicator. Very puzzling.

most likely a thermostat because the pressure on the a\c will be high if engine is over heating or the fans are not kicking on (check fan relay)

heater blowing cold when engine idleing, works good when rpm are up. what is problem? pete

It may be temperature sensor on radiator. Dashboard gets info from it. If this sensor is not good, ac will stop and dashboard willl show some strange temperatures.

I've had problems with Datsun (later Nissan) engines hanging the closed thermostat until it boiled, then the thermostat released and operated normally. If you increase the small vent hole in the thermostat valve plate a small amount, the problem disappears. It seems that steam from engine operation gathers behind the thermostat sensing bulb and delays opening. The increase in vent hole size lets the steam through and allows the hot water to open the valve. Hope this helps!

SOURCE: heater blowing cold air
My 2005 Nissan Sentra 1.8s with 55,000 mi. blows cold air from the heater. Coolant not circulating in engine. Lower hose stays cool to touch. Both heater hoses cold. Changed thermostat - didn't fix it. Coolant not leaking or dirty. None in oil - no oil in radiator. Changed worn water pump belt - pump spins freely with no noise or resistance. Cooling fans come on after warm-up. Temperature gauge stays in normal range then jumps to hot and back again. Coolant good to 10 below - didn't freeze here yet. No other problems or repairs to car. Afraid to drive and make worse. Help!
