Question about Epson Office Equipment & Supplies

1 Answer

My Epson Stylus RI800 does not reset when the power switch is turned on. Additionally the printer will not power down when the switch turned off. Also if the switch is in the on position when the printer is unplugged, and then the printer is plugged back into the power the power light on the power switch remains on (green light). Please advise

I have just tried you solution and it did not work.
    What is your next option?

    Thank you
    Fred Swartz

  • contact370 Jun 29, 2009

The printer is in the (off) state when I start it. When I hold down the power switch The green light blinks once and the ink cartage carrier moves slightly to the right, then it moves slightly back to the right and stops.

  • contact370 Jun 29, 2009

As I stated in the original email, the printer will not power down (turn off) when the power switch is depressed, it moves to the off position (it becomes flush with the other buttons) but the green light remains on (glowing).
As for printing, no it does not print.

Hello there, sorry to hear about the troubles you are having, I am sure I can help you out here. So you say it won't reset when the power switch is turned on... the power switch you refer to is it the one in the back of the printer? It is a hard On / Off switch that you can actually flip? As far as I know this model only has the Power button on the front of the unit, so I am going to go on the basis that you are referring to that, please let me know if it is another switch.

The really is no true "reset" option with this printer, you basically have three modes of operation:

Power on - ready to print
Standy by - power save ready to print after warming up (it does this automatically)
Power off - all lights should be off

To power the unit off (essentially a reset, you can power it down, wait a few seconds, power it back on) you need to HOLD DOWN the power button on the front of the unit, it may take as long as 15 seconds of holding the button before it starts to power down. Most people just leave the printer on all the time since it is hardly using any power whatsoever when it is not actually printing.

Please let me know if this answers your question, I believe it should. As long as you respond within the next 20 minutes or so it will guarantee that I personally will address the problem.

Thanks for your time,

Tim G

When you hold down the power button what does it do, does the light flash or anything of that nature? Otherwise than this reset issue is the printer printing just fine? Have you been able to successfully "reset" this printer in the past?

Please let me know and we can definitely get this solved.

That sounds like it's operating normally to me, I guess I'm failing to see the problem. Does the printer actually print when you send something to it or not? When you power on the printer it should move the ink cartridge as it sounds like it's doing, that's it's normal start-up routine. From there you should be able to leave the printer on, I have a similar model and I can't remember the last time I even shut it down, it's been on for at least 18 months straight.

Please confirm the actual issue, sounds like the printer powers up and down just fine, is starting up normally, and doing it's warm up routine... however maybe it's not actually printing when you want it to?

    Please let me know

    Thanks
    T

Ok I understand now, it is definitely a hardware problem, nothing you can easily fix from your end. You have performed all the steps to verify that this is the case. You will need to contact Epson support, it may still be under warranty and could be free to repair.

Their phone number is: 562-276-7296 or 905-709-2567 if you are in Canada.

Sorry we couldn't get it easily fixed, unfortunately it will need actual repairs, especially since it is not printing.

Thanks for your patience and understanding,

    Tim

Tip

Manual Counter Reset Method

To manually reset the Ink Jet Counter that compels you to clean your waste pads. For the tip on how to clean your ink waste pads go here.

Please Note: In some cases, your printer may be leaking ink so much and so often that not only does your ink pads need cleaning, but you may need to replace the ink reservoir on your printer or you will have a leaking mess on your hands. This is a decision and judgment only you can make. If your printer is leaking quite of lot of ink, you may have to take it to an authorized Epson Repair Shop or Person. Find an authorized location by starting at Epson.com

The solution below is valid for most of the following printer models listed below this solution, some listed may not work, some not listed may also work it varies as this method is listed below is illegal for an authorized Epson Tech to release.

Thanks to the many user boards on the Internet for this solution that I know has worked for people I've helped here on FixYa.

Don't be discouraged if it doesn't work the first time. The key is in pressing the buttons exactly at the same time. So if this doesn't work the first time, try again and try again. Most people state they get it eventually.

[thanks to fixyourownprinter.com for the crux of this particular solution]

"Printer Onboard Control Panel Key Sequence"

"Press and hold the paper feed, paper switch and the power switch.

Once the power light and paper light flashes twice and the other lights are flashing release the paper feed and paper switch "and then press the paper feed switch".

The power, paper and ink lights will flash twice. At this point the protection counter has been reset."

Don't give up, if it does not reset the first time. The timing is tricky for some people.

Supported Epson Models that I am aware of, others not listed may work and some listed also may not work, it varies but don't be discouraged to try and try again.

You can also try the software download solution listed in this tip I posted.

EPSON STYLUS 4000 MAINTENANCE REQUIRED 0040 ERROR CAN ON. HOW DO I RESET THE COUNTER?

While powering up the printer, hold down the three leftmost
arrow buttons:

[left-arrow] [down-arrow] [up-arrow]

You will get a whole different set of menus.

Use the up/down arrow buttons to select the "Clear Counters" menu, then press the [right-arrow] button.

Use the up/down arrows to get to the maintenance tank entry... where you can clear its counter.

Then turn the power off, wait, then turn it on.

You can use this diagnostic startup to clear most of the counters (and their related maintenance codes).

Error message on epson rx425

Follow this link.

http://www.ssclg.com/epsone.shtml

At the bottom of page agree to terms and install.

On the "configuration page" and in the 1st drop down screen select your printer.

On the 2nd drop down screen is where I was getting confused as I have a Epson Stylus Photo RX425 but couldn't see it in the listings, it is there, look for:-
"Epson Stylus CX4600(4500)/CX36x0(3500)/RX42x(430)PM-A700" and select.

Next click this page off and in the botom right quick launch panel right click the multi coloured printer icon.

Select the "Pretection Counter" then "Reset Pretection Counter"

There you have it, switch off and back on the printer and all should be well.........
