Question about Grilling

1 Answer

We have an old gas barbeque from B and Q which has been running of Butane for the last two years. We recently got a camping cooker which runs of either Butane or Propane. We need to buy a new gas cylinder and would like to move on to the lighter propane bottles but are unsure as to whether the old barbeque would take it (obviously we would neeed a new regulator regardless!) anybody have any ideas on how we can find out without blowing ourselve up, as we do not have the instruction manual! Many Thanks Matt

I have worked on gas products for many years and have converted many from lp to natural gas and from natural gas to lp. What you want to do i would never try.

What type fuel and oil does this take

My searches of the internet indicate that this appliance is a multi-fuel appliance.
It is supplied with a gas bottle - for use with butane fuel
(see )
Read the reviews on that webpage for reviwers experiences with different types of fuel. Diesel doesn't work, it seems, but kerosenr and unleaded gasoline (petrol) work ok. You may need different connector for gaseous fuel and liquid fuels.
Coleman Naptha fuel apparently works well.
I hope this information is some use.

Lp gas dryer. sometimes when drying smells like butane lighter. venting is wright i think i followed manuel for correct length of venting.maytag dryer 8 years old. thank you

If you have recently painted or varnished something in your house the fumes could be the cause. They react to the heat in the dryer. Let the house air out for a few days.

I have an old (revised for)north sea gas cooker - model Seventy Six - from 1958. For sentimental reasons I would like to use it again and would like to know how to revise it back to use with bottled butane...

you may find that this will work as it is on bottled gas with ajustable regulater so the flames are not to high.
you may not be able to get a gas safe chap to pass it off though

Motor will not run with the choke off & rpm's go up and down

sounds like your fuel has gone stale, drain tank and put in fresh fuel, with no additive, better to drain the tank after use than use additives

Regarding gas Barbeque and charcoal Barbeque

It depends on your preferance

Charcoal most say it gives what your cooking better flavor but the disadvantage is waiting for the coals to get hot and longer cooking time due to less heat.

Gas quick cooking time, quick warmup time the disadvantages scrafice some of the flavor, unless you buy a gas grill set up to smoke it is almost impossible to use a conventional gas grill for smoking, and also you have to have enough gas to cook completly or have a second tank in case you run out.

Hope this helps Ya

Yes you can just buy the regulator. Try camping shops or caravan centres.
There will be a choice of Butane or Propane. They are quite different connectors so will be easy to tell apart.

Make sure to crimp the hose securely as "jubilee" type clamps are not advised.
